Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo Fairway Wood Vs Callaway X Hot Fairway Wood Comparison Overview

You may already be a bit familiar with the clubs that we tested for today’s article. After all, they have both been around for several years. But it’s always a good idea to look at older models of golf clubs before you fork over the money for the latest release.

That’s because you could be saving a lot of money and getting a club that better suits your needs. We have tested both the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo and the Callaway X Hot clubs individually before but never side-by-side.

We figured with prices rising for almost anything thanks to inflation, we’d revisit some older more affordable clubs for everyone out there trying to save a few bucks. Besides, the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo and Callaway X Hot fairway woods still have a lot to offer.

Will either of them be the right fairway wood for you? Find out in the following comparison article.

Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo Fairway Wood Overview

With just a bit of contact, the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo performs very well and will fight the right.

TheCleveland Launcher HB Turbo fairway wood has an inherent draw bias. If you are able to make consistent, reasonable contact with the ball, 9 times out of 10 you will get a very straight shot trajectory.

When we took this club out to the course for testing, we were also very impressed with the way this club looked. The matte black finish and Miyazaki shaft make this club look much more expensive than it actually is.

And it’s not just looks either. The Miyazaki shaft is specially made with a high CG. This gives the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo fairway wood a very unique balance that allowed most of our testers to swing it faster than their average swing speeds.

The high center of gravity in the shaft coupled with the low/rear weighting in the head make for very favorable swing and launch conditions. The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo fairway wood has a nice, aerodynamic head design too.

The three ridges on the HiBor (ultra-thin) crown help to cut wind resistance as evidenced by launch monitor readings.

While spin rates are a little high and the best performance comes when the ball is positioned up a little bit, the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo fairway wood is excellent for producing high-arcing shots that stay straight.

Callaway X Hot Fairway Wood Overview

The Callaway X Hot fairway wood has a nice oversized head profile that will instill confidence in mid to high handicappers.

With a bit of weight savings from a fixed hosel (as opposed to an adjustable one) the X Hot fairway wood has a nice and low CG. This is a fairway wood that, like the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo, was meant to fly straight.

You won’t get a lot of left to right workability on the fairway with the Callaway X Hot; but you will get plenty of distance. The ball comes off the face incredibly quickly and easily. While this is a detriment to feedback, we are sure higher handicap players won’t mind.

The X Hot fairway wood also has a nice, deep face profile so it is plenty forgiving. It also performs well in a variety of difficult lies. It’s very easy to get the ball high up into the air with this club.

It also plays long so if you’re staring down a hole with bunkers and water hazards on all sides, you can swing confidently with the X Hot fairway wood knowing that it can provide you the distance and straightness to get past them.

Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo Fairway Wood – First Impressions

The first thing we noticed about this club was how good it looks.

The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo has the look of a premium club without the premium price tag. Even the sole looks sophisticated with a “multi-step” design. The design isn’t just around to look nice either.

The terraced sole helps with tuf interaction. While not the best in the rough, the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo fairway wood has a nice, smooth feel off the deck and in most normal lies.

The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo fairway wood is also surprisingly lightweight. It also has a fixed hosel and the crown is made of a very thin, lite metal. This is part of what helped most of our testers increase their swing speed with a 3 wood.

If you’re looking for an even smoother sweep off the deck, you should check out the Cleveland XL Halo fairway wood. The first thing you’ll notice about the XL Halo is the head size.

It has a nice, big, beefy footprint so right off the bat, it’s plenty forgiving. The rear weighting and high MOI is also perfect for beginners and high handicappers.

But where the XL Halo really shines is in difficult lies. Even in hardpan lies, the XL Halo seems to smooth out your swing and launch the ball high.
