Callaway Strata Vs. Tour Edge Bazooka 370 Golf Club Set Comparison Overview

If you are looking for a set of entry-level golf clubs that you will still be able to use once your game improves, you might want to pay extra close attention to the following comparison overview. We have tested the Tour Edge Bazooka 370 and the Callaway Strata golf club sets before.

However, we have never tested them side by side. We wanted to see how these sets stacked up against each other specifically because individually, we already know them to be quality beginner’s sets. But which one is better overall? Find out in the following comparison overview.

Callaway Strata Golf Club Set Overview

Strata Main Image

The Callaway Strata complete men’s golf club set includes a driver, 3 wood, 5 hybrid, irons 6-9, a pitching wedge and putter.

The incidentals of the set include a stand bag and 2 head covers for your woods. Now let’s get into the fun stuff. What we liked most about this set was the driver and it’s performance off the tee. The driver of the Strata set is a perfect example of one that punches above it’s weight class.

It has a forged titanium face insert so not only does it yield exceptional distance (about 257 yards on average for a tester with a swing speed of 95mph) but also feels amazing on impact. The driver definitely feels like one you would find in a premium set of clubs.

We liked the combination of 3 wood and 5 hybrid in the set to give beginners options. However, both these clubs produce a sort of flat shot trajectory. The irons are nothing to write home about either but the long blade and wide soles will definitely help with forgiveness.

Tour Edge Bazooka 370 Golf Club Set Overview

The Tour Edge Bazooka 370 set includes a driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, #4 hybrid, irons 5-9, PW, SW and putter.

It’s clear that Tour Edge emphasized forgiveness more than anything else with this set. The entire set feature low and back weight placement that will make it easier for new players to get their swing speed up and make more consistent contact with the ball.

The 460CC driver also has a titanium face but it was not forged so the feel is poorer even if the distance is about the same as the Strata driver. This set shines in the rough as the fairway woods and hybrid sport shallow faces that allow players to scoop the ball out of shaggy turf.

The irons are also forgiving in this set; but we really liked the wide sole and high launch of the wedges. The anser-style putter is well-balanced but you don’t get a lot of feel or roll control due to the clunky face insert.

We liked the overall performance of the Tour Edge Bazooka 370 set. It offers comparable distance and just a bit more short-game accuracy thanks to the thoughtfully designed wedges. Plus, you actually get 2 woods and a sand wedge!

Callaway Strata – First Impressions & Club Breakdowns

After seeing the 1000’s of positive reviews online, I was looking forward to getting my heads on the clubs and getting them out on the driving range for a test run was high on the list of priorities.

You can immediately tell that the clubs are good quality when you take them out of the bag. The clubs feel light to hold and the shafts are solid but do have a bit of flex.

Driver

The driver stands out initially with the large titanium head and massive sweet spot. The club is long accurate and forgiving.

3 Wood

The 3 Wood also has a large sweet spot and is a dream to hit off the fairway. These clubs are built for distance and if you have a slower swing speed, the 3 Wood can also be excellent off the tee.

Hybrids

With the 14 piece set, you get the 5 hybrid which is the perfect club for when you veer to the left or right of the fairway. If you want an extra hybrid that can close any distance gaps and replace some irons shots, go with the 16 piece set.

Irons

The irons are game improvement with thick soles, built for distance and they interact well with the turf making them easy to get in the air and towards the green.

Wedges

The pitching wedge is nice to hit and the lack of a Sand Wedge in the 12 piece set makes the 14 piece a must have for most beginners in my book.

Putter

No complaints with the putter, they haven’t tried to reinvent the wheel, it’s a simple blade putter with a solid shaft that gets the job done with visual alignment included.

Shafts

The shafts in all of the clubs with the Strata set are Steel but you have a choice between regular and stiff flex. There is also a ladies set with ladies flex available.

The clubs are built for forgiveness AND distance, so if you have an average to faster swing speed, Strata can be an excellent option.

Tour Edge Bazooka 370 – First Impressions & Club Breakdown

The first thing you will notice about these clubs is that they are lightweight and feel very balanced.

Tour Edge did a really good job with CG placement in pretty much all of these clubs but most notably in the driver and fairway woods. The extreme heel and toe weighting in the heads of the woods make swinging these clubs very comfortable –  even if you have a fast swing speed.

Of course, the Bazooka 370 golf clubs were designed with slower swing speed players in mind. Let’s take a look at each individual club.

Driver

The driver is set to 10.5 degrees of loft so you get decent launch out of it. The main attraction, so to speak, is the titanium face. The thin titanium face provides plenty of flex and feel so you know where you struck the ball on the face after every drive. The 460CC head will also be congenial for players who are having a bit of trouble with accuracy off the tee.

Fairway Woods

The #3 and #5 fairway woods are thoughtfully designed for the high handicap player. They feature shallow faces which helps them perform better from the rough and tight lies. Beginners will be able to scoop the ball up out of the rough and launch the ball nice and high with these woods.

Hybrid

Just in case you don’t like woods, Tour Edge included a #4 hybrid. This hybrid has a generous sweet spot and is nice and light. Like the fairway woods, the #4 hybrid in the Tour Edge Bazooka 370 golf club set has a shallow face so it too can be very handy when you find yourself in the rough.

Irons

The first thing we noticed about these irons is the long blade and large profile. These irons were designed to hit with. They are cavity back irons which help with distance and forgiveness. While you won’t be able to work the short irons too well, you probably aren’t very worried about that as a beginner anyway.

Wedges

The pronounced leading edges of the sand and pitching wedge makes it very easy to launch the ball high in the air. In fact, they launch too high sometimes, causing the ball to lose it’s line in windy conditions. Still, beginners will start to learn how to work short approaches with these wedges and that’s the important thing.

Putter

The Tour Edge Bazooka 370 set comes with an anser-style putter that looks smooth and clean at point of address. The roll control is a bit lacking as the face insert seems a little on the thick side, but the clubhead balance is there.

Shaft Information

The woods and hybrid clubs in the Bazooka 370 set are all outfitted with graphite shafts. They are 75 grams while the irons in the set have steel shafts that are 110 grams.

Who Is The Strata Set For

The Strata set is for beginners. The clubs get rave reviews but it is important to keep in mind that they are not going to compete with a premium $400 driver or $6oo set of irons when it comes to performance.

What you are getting here is a perfectly good quality and durable set that offers plenty of performance to high handicappers for a competitive price.

Who is the Tour Edge Bazooka 370 Golf Club Set for?

It became very clear after just half a round with these golf clubs that they were designed with beginner players in mind.

Everything about the set was made to be forgiving. From the extreme perimeter weighted driver to the oversized heads of the iron, Tour Edge wanted to make sure that beginner players felt confident with these clubs at point of address.

If you are an intermediate player you might be able to derive some value from this set – mainly from the easy distance and launch you get from the woods. However, the lack of workability in the irons will likely leave a bad taste in the mouth of players who are trying to hone their short-game accuracy.

That all being said, the Tour Edge Bazooka 370 would make a great gift for anyone who has expressed interest in taking up golf. If you are searching for a beginner set of clubs for yourself, the Tour Edge Bazooka 370 set is an affordable option and in most cases, we think that beginner players can skip a fitting with these clubs.
