Callaway Rogue ST Max Vs Taylormade Stealth Drivers Comparison And Review

Testing these two drivers was a real treat because they represent the newest innovations from their respective manufacturers. We can honestly say that we didn’t know what to expect when we compared these two drivers against each other.

Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Overview

The Rogue ST Max driver was one of the most solid and fun drivers we have ever tested.

While there are other drivers in the Rogue ST family that have different design emphases, the Rogue ST Max is all about distance. For years Callaway has been delighting golfers with the Flash Face stainless steel design.

In the new year, we now have the SS22 A.I. designed Flash Face iteration. The Rogue ST Max driver has been outfitted with Flash Face SS22 and we were very pleased with what we experienced.

The feel of these faces is incredibly solid. The sound is deep and gratifying while providing consistency across the face. The feedback was phenomenal but not overwhelming.

Being a driver that was designed mainly for distance, the Rogue ST Max did not disappoint. The testers in our party were averaging drive distances of 220 yards with this driver – keep in mind that we have testers with swing speeds under 90 MPH.

One of the design goals for the new SS22 face was to keep spin rates low which is what contributes to the impressive distance of this driver. While certainly not the most workable driver in the Rogue ST family, the ST Max will get you where you need to go.

Taylormade Stealth Driver Overview

Taylormade has outdone themselves in terms of golf club innovation with the Taylormade Stealth driver.

The new breed of Taylormade Stealth driver is one to truly behold. Taylormade did a complete left turn and left other manufacturers in the dust by creating the first practical carbon-faced driver.

Carbon has been around the golf world for many years now. It is used mainly because of its high strength to thickness ratio. It’s very light but still very rigid. Manufacturers have been using carbon on crowns, soles and other parts of clubs for years now.

But this is the first time we have seen carbon used for the construction of a driver face. It was one of the most surreal yet satisfying experiences we’ve had testing drivers. It delivers a deep, rich sound and feel while still flexing to a high degree.

It looks amazing, feels amazing and kept up in terms of distance with the Callaway Rogue ST Max driver. In fact, the faster swing speed testers in our party were getting distances that exceeded 230 yards with the Taylormade Stealth driver.

As expected though, slower swing speed testers had trouble breaking the 200 yard mark. The Stealth driver delivered straighter shots for our higher handicap testers but spin rates remained a little high.

When comparing these drivers, it really is a battle of faces, so to speak. The latest and greatest technology for both of these drivers is in their faces. The Rogue ST Max offers impressive distance for almost all players but failed to attain max distance for our lower handicap testers.

The Taylormade Stealth driver didn’t play as long for our slower swing speed testers but did produce straighter shots.

Callaway Rogue ST Max  Driver – First Impressions

After our first swing with the Roge ST Max, we were very impressed by how solid and satisfying it felt.

Part of the solid feel comes from the internal bracing bars that are more laterally expansive to provide body support both horizontally and vertically. That, coupled with the titanium low-profile body bracing make for an exceptionally solid driver with a nice, comfortable and low center of gravity.

The Callaway Rogue ST Max also features an adjustable hosel for fine-tuning your shot shape.

The Rogue ST Family

The Rogue ST Max is the only one with a 26 gram tungsten weight. The Rogue ST Max D, Rogue ST Max LS and Rogue ST LS have either 23 gram or 20 gram weights. The Rogue ST LS was the most workable of the bunch and produced the lowest spin off the tee.

Taylormade Stealth Driver – First Impressions

The Taylormade Stealth driver was impressive in almost every respect but we were really interested in testing our first carbon-faced driver.

For the most part, we weren’t disappointed. While it became clear fairly early on that the Taylormade Stealth driver was more for mid to low handicap players, it was awesome to experience something so fresh, new and most importantly, effective.

As you may expect from a Taylormade driver, the Taylormade Stealth features the famed speed pocket and a redesigned inertia generator that was upping the swing speeds of even our higher handicap testers (by 2-3 MPH).

The Stealth Family

The Stealth family includes the Stealth Plus and the Stealth HD drivers. The Stealth Plus is the only one in the line that features a sliding rear weight while the Stealth HD is the only one with internal draw bias.
