Callaway Rogue ST Max Vs. Taylormade SIM2 Driver Comparison & Review
Both the Callaway Rogue ST Max and the Taylormade SIM2 drivers were built to be extremely forgiving and therefore, solid choice for beginner and high handicappers. We are plenty familiar with the Taylormade SIM2 driver as it has been around for quite some time and we’ve tested it more than once.
However, we are less familiar with the Callaway Rogue ST Max as it was just released earlier this year and have less experience with it. We wanted to see how good it really was for beginners compared to the well-established SIM2 driver. Take a look at what we found.
Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Overview
The Callaway Rogue ST Max has a massive amount of tungsten weight placed low and in the back of the head.
You can pretty much feel the tungsten right away as there is 26 grams of it pulling your swing down and imparting a slight draw bias. It may take beginners a few swings to determine the difference, but our experienced testers noticed it right away.
It does indeed make for an exceptionally forgiving driver that all but forces you to swing the club the right way. Apex height was also very impressive with this club as evidenced by launch monitor readings. The Callaway Rogue ST Max also has a nice and large 460CC head.
Taylormade SIM2 Driver Overview
The SIM2 driver plays long and will help your drives stay straight.
Like the Callaway Rogue ST Max, the SIM2 emphasizes rear weighting to increase MOI and forgiveness; but the emphasis isn’t so strong. A 16 gram steel weight is placed in the back while a front weight is also used to help kill ball spin.
This actually made the SIM2 play longer; but not by much. The front weight causes the ball to spin less so it carries further. While the max drive distance with the Callaway Rogue ST Max was 233, the SIM2 produced a max drive distance of 237.
The SIM2 is a bit more clunky and harder to get the hang of because of the uniquely shaped sole panel. Our higher handicap testers weren’t swinging as accurately with the SIM2 as they were with the Callaway Rogue ST Max.
The Callaway Rogue ST Max is the better driver for beginners overall. You only lose a bit of distance with it compared to the SIM2 but you gain much more in swing accuracy.

Sim 2 Driver – First Impressions
The first thing you notice about this driver is the large and the attractive, colorful design with advanced features popping out of every crevice in the driver.
The club is surprisingly light and the sweet spot is so big, you cant imagine hitting anything but a straight shot.
If slices are a problem for you in your game, the Max D version is almost guaranteed to iron that out of your game and if you want to opt for a more playable driver with extra distance the Sim is perfect. For us the Sim Max was a happy in between to hit.
The ultra thin steel face is speed injected for maximum distance and the Sim 2 is among the longest drivers in the game right now, but the thru slot speed pocket is also amazing at increasing the size of the sweet spot when hit low on the face.
The forged ring construction and carbon fiber sole delivers some of the fastest swing speeds in the game today.
It also has the inertia generator for higher MOI and split mass weighting, including a 16g steel weight and the back of the club for an incredible, long accurate and forgiving driver, used by some the world’s best players including Dustin Johnson.
Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver – First Impressions
After our first swing with the Roge ST Max, we were very impressed by how solid and satisfying it felt.
Part of the solid feel comes from the internal bracing bars that are more laterally expansive to provide body support both horizontally and vertically. That, coupled with the titanium low-profile body bracing make for an exceptionally solid driver with a nice, comfortable and low center of gravity.
The Callaway Rogue ST Max also features an adjustable hosel for fine-tuning your shot shape.
The Rogue ST Family
The Rogue ST Max is the only one with a 26 gram tungsten weight. The Rogue ST Max D, Rogue ST Max LS and Rogue ST LS have either 23 gram or 20 gram weights. The Rogue ST LS was the most workable of the bunch and produced the lowest spin off the tee.
