Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Vs Ping G430 Irons Comparison Overview
A New Year and a new series of clubs from all the top manufacturers.
First up is Callaway with the Paradym AI Smoke 3 Version Iron Set.
And in this article, they are going up against the exc3ellent Ping G430’s from 2023.
As Ping may not release new irons this year, this should be a direct head to head in 2024.
Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons Overview
The Ai Smoke Irons come in three distinct flavours. The Max, The HL and The Max Fast.
The Max Irons are hollow body players distance irons aimed at high to mid handicappers.
The HL Launch are for high handicappers who sometimes struggle to get the ball in the air.
The Max Fast are for those with slower swing speeds.
One of the biggest improvements is the new ai generated smart face which looks at real golfers swings and made the irons as forgiving as possible, especially when caught low on the face.
The irons are now cast as opposed to forged as with the Paradym irons from 2023 and the result is that they are $500 cheaper.
We have a reinforced internal structure and dynamic soles which make these irons extremely long.
Despite having stronger lofts than the 2023 paradyms, they fly longer and higher, with more stopping power.
Expect the Ai Smoke Irons to end up in plenty of bags in 2024 and beyond.
Ping G430 Irons Overview
Ping are one of the few golf club manufacturers that dont release clubs every year.
That means the G430’s are going to be the flagship again for 2024 and that is not a bad thing.
Ping looked to increase the ball speed and distance of the G425’s with the G430s and they certainly succeeded.
The face is three percent thinner and the lofts are also stronger, resulting in 5 to 10 yards of more distance.
The Pur Flex cavity badge has also been added which gives a smoother and more powerful sound.
Improved lie angles and lower CG also ensures the ball flight has a similar height with noticeably less spin.
The Tungsten Weight Remains which stretches the sweet spot along the blade.
Overall, The G430’s will still be a strong contender in 2024. They are especially good for taller players with the choice of lie angles available with the Dot system.
Overall Conclusion
These clubs are quite similar in terms of the players they are targetting, which is high to mid handicappers.
We found the Ai Smoke irons to be longer, higher and with more spin.
The G430’s have a lower and more penetrating flight.
Both irons are very close in terms of performance.
The G430’s are cavity backs and the Ai Smoe are hollow body players distance irons.
Best option is to try both out for yourself to see which is the best fit for you.

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke First Impressions
“My first impression of the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons was that they were familiar.”
I love it when Callaway plays to their strengths and right away, I could tell the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons had classic Callaway design.
The face depth is about medium as is the width of the top line and the sole width. Again, very reminiscent of the size and shape of the Edge irons.
They look like they’re going to be forgiving at first glance and they live up to their initial appearance.
It took me just a couple of swings to get past the 170 yard carry mark with the 7-iron and I was also pretty pleased with the dispersion. Even on my toe-side mis-hits, I wasn’t over-drawing the ball.
Yes, I landed a little too right of the target, but the divergence was never greater than 9 yards.
Ping G430 Irons First Impressions
The first thing to notic about the G430’s is the size. These are large game improvement irons with thick soles, built for distance and forgivness.
The shorter hosel stands out too, with the offset of the club. It helps to lower CG and get the ball flying higher.
There’s a bit of color on the back too with the Purflex cavity badge. This dampens vibrations on mishits and it houses 7 striking zones which produce straight and high shots even when you don’t connect flush.
The visible screw in the toe stands out too. There is another weight in the hosel tip and this increases MOI across the face. These irons will fly high and straight even when you don’t connect flush.
The other thing that stands out is the lower lofts, the main reason for the distance. With that being said the CG is lower and there is an extra degree of bounce so you can still the ball in the air easily.
The 3% thinner face ensures a faster ball speed on impact and the Hydropearl 2.0 finish ensures you can game these irons effectively in any weather.
The G430’s are a serious contender overall in the game improvement market in 2023.

Who Are the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons for?
In my humble opinion, I think the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons would be great for handicappers in the 17-23 range.
This is the area where you’re still going to need a good bit of distance and help staying on the fairway – two things that the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons do exceedingly well.
But if you have problems hitting the ball low, the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons are not for you.
For the naturally low hitter I would recommend the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL irons which, as you can probably guess, have weaker loft profiles which means higher launch.
The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons Family
In addition to the standard Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons, Callaway has released the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL and the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast iron sets.
As already discussed the HL version is a weaker-lofted, higher-launching set. The 7-iron HL checks in at 30° in comparison to the 28° lofted 7-iron of the standard Paradym Ai Smoke set.
The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL irons also have deeper cavity backs and are generally a bit more forgiving.
Then there are the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast irons which also feature a deep cavity back and even weaker lofts – the 7-iron is 31°.
The Max Fast irons boast a lighter design than the standard Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons so they would be better for slower swing speed players.

Aidan Lehane here, I’m a Mid-low handicap golfer who has made tremendous progress in breaking 90 in just over 1 year of playing golf seriously.
I get out to the course or range as often as possible and review all the equipment I’ve come across on this blog.
