Callaway Mavrik Irons Review – Are They Forgiving & Good for High Handicappers?

Callaway Mavrik Irons Overview

“The 2020 Mavrik irons come equipped with custom tungsten weights in each club.”

The trick was to get the CG lined up with the line of force at impact and Callaway did a great job of that.

The tungsten weights in each club in the set are placed strategically to optimize CG and add force to your swings.

The result is impressive ball speed and distance when you pure the ball. When you don’t, the AI-designed face does a decent job of compensating.

While you lose a good bit of distance when you miss inward towards the heel or outward towards the toe, the results aren’t as dramatic as you would expect.

The Callaway Mavrik irons also offer a low, piercing shot trajectory that will help you cover a lot of ground quickly on long par 5’s.

Are the Callaway Mavrik Irons Forgiving? 

“It’s easy to get good distance from the long iron in this set.”

That being said, you still need to have at least a moderately accurate strike with these irons. They don’t sport the largest heads and perimeter weighting is at a minimum.

The AI flash face cup does a good job of preserving ball speeds on low-face strikes; but you are left high and dry if you mis-hit anywhere else.

Mid handicappers will likely see increases in distance of about 8 yards almost immediately.

Other than that though, we must say that we’ve seen much more forgiving Callaway irons.

Are the Callaway Mavrik Irons Good for Beginners & High Handicappers?

“They are good for beginners and high handicappers; but not great.”

The Callaway Mavrik irons are, no doubt, high-quality irons that will likely help you improve your long game.

However, if you are looking for max forgiveness as a beginner or high handicapper, there are better Callaway irons to check out.

Again, mid handicappers will probably have a field day with the Callaway Mavrik irons as they generate great speed and distance.

Should you Buy the Callaway Mavriks or the Rogue ST Max’s

“The Rogue ST Max irons are great for high handicappers.”

They have larger head profiles and produce higher launch. Distance is a bit lacking but beginners will appreciate the ease of use of the Callaway Rogue ST Max irons.
