Callaway Mavrik Hybrid Vs Taylormade SIM Max Hybrid Comparison Overview

For many years now TaylorMade and Callaway have made incredible golf clubs, they are generally the leaders in innovation from Putters all the way to Drivers.

In recent years Hybrids have become extremely popular, this is because they are much easier to hit compared to a longer Iron. The idea is to have a more forgiving club that launches the ball into the air easily.

TaylorMade and Callaway have done just that with these two models, we will dive into some details for you, hopefully making your decision on what to buy a little easier.

Callaway Mavrik Hybrid Overview

The Callaway Mavrik features a low CG and high MOI profile in a mid-sized head, this hybrid is loaded with speed-enhancing technologies for scary long distance.

Callaway use an A.I. machine to design the face of their clubs, this allows them to become incredibly detailed, far more than any scientist can be. For the first time they have incorporated it into their hybrids. This increases distance and gives you more forgiveness in every head.

The Mavrik Hybrid is designed with a FlashFace, it is constructed from a high-strength steel, the Mavrik Hybrid also has their famous Jailbreak technology, which supports the face and allows for faster ball speeds. The combination of these two technologies produce a Hybrid that is incredibly forgiving.

With all this technology and ideal CG placements the Mavrik Hybrid is extremely easy to launch, this makes it ideal for stopping the ball in the green.

The confidence-inspiring shape with a squared-off toe area looks good for any player. The design allows for an easy transition into your iron set.

 Taylormade Overview

TaylorMade has reintroduced one of their famous technologies called V Steel.

The v-shaped sole allows for easy turf interaction and provides extra versatility when playing from tight or difficult lies.

A new technology for their Hybrid range, but something that has taken their drivers by storm over the last few years is Twist Face. TaylorMade has twisted the tie and heel area of the club, this helps with mis-hits which produces straighter shots.

Their breakthrough Thru-Slot Speed Pocket technology gives the bottom of the club more flexibility. This helps with shots struck low on the face, producing higher ball speeds from low-face mis-hits

TaylorMade use a C300 steel in the SIM Max Hybrid, it allows for a stronger, faster face engineered for fast speeds off the clubface.

Callaway Mavrik Hybrid First Impressions

The Callaway Mavrik Hybrid is going to be a game changer. The performance and look is something we have not seen before.

From the get go we could see the Mavrik Hybrid was better than the models we had in our bags, more ball speed, higher launch and more forgiving, what more do you want?

It has 4 loft options, 3 – 6 Hybrid, the one downside we felt is that there is no loft sleeve. The loft sleeve gives you the ability to dial in your club that much more. However this is a personal preference, and we know some of you prefer it without a loft sleeve.

There is no question the A.I. technology works, the Jailbreak and FlashFace technologies can be felt from the first hit. It is so forgiving we actually couldn’t feel if we had mis-hit it or not.

The Mavrik Hybrid launches very easily, the CG has been positioned low in the head to help with launch, and it is clear from the outset. We could see the balls landing on the green, and stopping very quickly.

The Callaway Hybrid Family

Callaway has two additional Hybrids, the Apex and Big Bertha B21 hybrid. All three and designed slightly differently to accommodate all levels of golfers.

The Apex model is aimed more towards your better player, it has adjustability which we love, as you can really get dialed in. it has more lofts (3-6) and obviously with the loft sleeve many more. The Apex has minimal offset with a more traditional looking Hybrid shape.

The Big Bertha B21 is your game improvement model. It has a large offset, much more than the Mavrik and Apex. With this it will be slightly more draw bias, helping higher handicap players straighten out their slice. The low CG and easiness to launch gives you the ability to stop the ball on the greens with ease.

TaylorMade SIM Max Hybrid First Impressions

The first thing you notice when you put down any club is how good it looks, the TaylorMade SIM Max sits unbelievably nicely, the white paint line and shape of the Hybrid sits square, it is weird but for some reason when you put it down, you just think you are going to hit it well.

TaylorMade products are always full of technology that they claim work, it is clear that the SIM Max is not a let down. The V Steel is incredible, the club slides through the turf like a hot knife through butter.

TwistFace is revolutionary, our shot shape on mis-hits were much straighter, and the launch was perfect, the balls stopped on the greens in one or two bounces every time.

Lastly, low struck shots seemed to come off faster than the shots struck out of the middle, proving the Thru Slot technology works wonders.

The TaylorMade Hybrid Family

TaylorMade do not have another Hybrid in the family, however they do have a lower price point option called the M2.

The M2 does not have all the bells and whistles as the SIM Max, however it still packs a punch. With the precisely positioned CG and Thru Slot technology, the M2 is not to be messed with. We can safely say that in its price range, the M2 is by far your best option.
