After testing the Taylormade Stealth against the Callaway Epic Max driver, it was clear to us that these drivers take very different approaches to game improvement. That being said, they both offer benefits for a wide variety of players – you just have to know what those benefits are.

Callaway Epic Max Driver Overview

The Callaway Epic Max driver features a triaxial carbon crown which makes weight savings for the 13 gram sliding rear weight.

The sliding rear weight in conjunction with the adjustable hosel make for a very versatile driver. Whether you prefer a draw, fade or neutral shot bias, the Epic Max can accommodate. It’s also a very forgiving driver. It has a larger footprint than the standard Taylormade Stealth driver.

For the most part, our testers found the Epic Max easy to hit with. Furthermore, the higher handicap testers in our party recorded more impact in the dead-center of this driver. However, the Epic Max did not play as long as the Taylormade Stealth driver.

For the same group of high handicap testers (swing speeds between 85-94 MPH) the Epic Max produced drives that were an average of 11 yards shorter than the Taylormade Stealth.

Taylormade Stealth Driver Overview

The Taylormade Stealth has no sliding weight but does have an adjustable hosel.

It should be noted that the Taylormade Stealth driver has a neutral flight bias. And if you are looking for a sliding rear weight, the Stealth Plus driver has one. But we tested the standard Taylormade Stealth driver.

It has an amazing feel thanks to a carbon fiber face with a polyurethane wrap. This material also really helps control spin rates while the Speed Pocket increases ball speed on shots hit near the sole. The Taylormade Stealth driver also produced higher launch angles than the Callaway Epic Max driver.

If you are looking for versatility the Callaway Epic Max would be the better call. It would also be the better driver in general, for beginners and double-digit handicappers. However, the Taylormade Stealth driver plays longer, produces higher launch angles and has the better feel.

We should also mention that the increased workability makes the Stealth driver better for intermediate to single-digit handicap players.
