Callaway Elyte Vs Paradym Ai Smoke Irons

Callaway Elyte Vs Paradym Ai Smoke

The Callaway Elyte are the newest iteration of the Callaway Irons, replacing the AI smoke from yester year.

The question on everbodies lips is whether they are better or not and, if it is worth upgrading from the Elyte Irons to the Ai Smoke.

Atarting off for me, the Callaway Elytes have more shelf appeal. Theyve ditched the bright colours as they are confident with the upgrades in the technology.

What’s The Same

Both Irons have the tradtional Callaway rounded look and have a large profile with chunky soles and a thick topline that inspires confidence at adress.

Both iron set are focused on distance, consistency and forgiveness for high handicap players while the long irons can be used by mid to high handicappers who will use a more player friendly model in their scoring irons.

Whats Improved with the Callaway Elyte Irons.

The 10X AI Smart Face is the big one that they have added this year, boasting of how it has 10 extra sweet spots on the face to ensure a super tight dispersion no matter where you hit the ball across the face.

The Mainframe head is now 20% smaller and the weight savings are used to add more urethane inside the club which really adds to the powerful sound and smooth feel.

They’ve also added the Tri Sole which is great for anybody who hits the ball fat regulalry and strikes on the face.

Performance Review

We were getting slightly more distance with the Paradym irons (2 yards with 7 iron) but the dispersion was much tighter with the Elytes. No matter where you hit the ball on the face it seems to go the same distance with the Elytes.

Also the sound, feel and shelf appeal is better with the Elytes.

We were getting more spin and a slightly lower flight with the Elytes mean they are that little bit more workable and easier to attack the pins with for Mid Handicappers.

Overall the Elyte irons are better for us in terms of forgiveness, feel and workability with a bit more stopping power on the greens.

The Paradyms have a slightly longer and lower ball flight.

Very close overall but we favoured the extra consistency in the Elyte irons.

“My first impression of the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons was that they were familiar.”

I love it when Callaway plays to their strengths and right away, I could tell the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons had classic Callaway design.

The face depth is about medium as is the width of the top line and the sole width. Again, very reminiscent of the size and shape of the Edge irons.

They look like they’re going to be forgiving at first glance and they live up to their initial appearance.

It took me just a couple of swings to get past the 170 yard carry mark with the 7-iron and I was also pretty pleased with the dispersion. Even on my toe-side mis-hits, I wasn’t over-drawing the ball.

Yes, I landed a little too right of the target, but the divergence was never greater than 9 yards.

There 4 version of the irons:

Ai Smoke – High to Mid Handicap

Ai Smoke HL – For Slower Sing Speeds

Ai Smoke Max – For Inconsistent strikers

Ai Smoke Womens – For Women’s Swing Speeds

Callaway Elyte Irons First Impressions

The first thing we noticed about the Callaway Elyte irons is the shelf appeal and the beautiful chrome finish.

When you start hitting balls, you notice the beautiful sound and feel. The mainframe has been reduced in size by 20% and this extra space has been filled with more Urethane to crack up the distance, the sound, and the feel.

Next up is the AI10x face which has accumulated more data fro average golfers and has introduced an extra 10 sweet spots across the face. This means a tighter dispersion rate and almost no drop off in performance when you miss the sweet spot to the right or to the left.

There is minimal offset in the irons so if you are prone to a slice, these may not be the irons for your game.

Next up is the tri sole design which offers more forgiveness when the ball is hit low on the face. The Trailing edge is also sharper and cuts through the turf more easily. This helps with fat shots or when you hit the turf before the ball.

This type of sole had been traditionally left for better players irons but when tested in the game improvement irons, they also boosted performance and thus, are included.

Callaway have also bucked the trend and actually decreased lofts in the shorter irons to increase pin hunting abilities and stopping power.

We found the wedges to be really easy to hit and workable around the greens and from the bunkers.

There 4 version of the irons:

Elyte X – Super Game Improvement

Elyte HL – For Higher Launch Angles and moderate swing speeds.

Elyte Max Fast – For Seniors and Slow Swing Speeds (US Only)

Who Are the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons for?

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons5

In my humble opinion, I think the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons would be great for handicappers in the 17-23 range.

This is the area where you’re still going to need a good bit of distance and help staying on the fairway – two things that the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons do exceedingly well.

But if you have problems hitting the ball low, the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons are not for you.

For the naturally low hitter I would recommend the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL irons which, as you can probably guess, have weaker loft profiles which means higher launch.

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons6

In addition to the standard Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons, Callaway has released the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL and the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast iron sets.

As already discussed the HL version is a weaker-lofted, higher-launching set. The 7-iron HL checks in at 30° in comparison to the 28° lofted 7-iron of the standard Paradym Ai Smoke set.

The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL irons also have deeper cavity backs and are generally a bit more forgiving.

Then there are the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast irons which also feature a deep cavity back and even weaker lofts – the 7-iron is 31°.

The Max Fast irons boast a lighter design than the standard Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons so they would be better for slower swing speed players.
