Callaway Edge Vs Taylormade RBZ Speedlight Club Sets Review And Comparison 2023

Two of the hottest beginner/slash intermediate sets on the market right now from two of the leading brands in the game.

The Callaway Edge is extremely popular, even though it comes without its own bag. It’s popularity almost certainly comes down to it’s superior performance on the course.

The Taylormade RBZ also offers incredible performance. It costs a little extra but it comes with 2 extra clubs and a F1 inspired, light cart bag.

Callaway Edge Set Overview

The Callaway Edge Golf club set is known for it’s quality and is famously know to be on sale at CostCo.

The clubs themselves are game improvement and are made with enough quality to take your game from dud to stud.

The performance of the set is more similar to a premium set like the Callaway Mavriks than a beginner set and these clubs are durable as well as high performance.

The irons are cavity back with a deep undercut, excellent turf interaction and maximum forgiveness.

It comes with 2 less clubs than the RBZ set and , bizarrely, without a bag, but it does cost less and performs at a similar level.

If you have your own bag already, this set can be a real winner on price, for the quality you get.

Taylormade RBZ Speedlight Golf Set

If you are looking for a quality golf club set that can suit a variety of play styles, the Taylormade RBZ Speedlite would be a solid choice.

It is a little pricey but you have to remember that this is a set that you will still love as your game evolves.

Our only gripe is that this is not the longest set of clubs but if you wanted to fit with stiffer shafts, you should be able to hit the clubs a good bit further.

As it is, the set comes with the option of graphite or steel shafts with regular or senior flex available. The driver has an average loft of 10.5 Degrees.

Still, the long woods, workable irons and accurate wedges and putter make up for this shortcoming. We definitely recommend checking this set out.

The RBZ set is the better overall option if you are just starting or looking to reach the next level, especially because you can customize the set to suit your game

The Edge is high end and premium, aimed at average players but good enough for even mid handicappers to play well with.

Taylormade RBZ – First Impressions & Club Breakdowns

Overall the Taylormade RBZ Speedlite Golf Club set is versatile.

Players of multiple skill-levels will be able to benefit from it, perfect for beginners but high performing for even mid handicappers. The quality is on another level from many beginner/intermediate sets.

They are accurate and some of the clubs feel simply amazing.

Driver

The driver features Taylormade’s signature Speed Pocket which, is a trench bored behind the face to allow it to hinge freely.

This produces incredible ball speed. It is plenty forgiving too with an oversized 460CC titanium head.

Woods

The Taylormade RBZ Speedlite set comes with a 3 wood and a 5 wood.

Both are outfitted with the Speed Pocket so they boast impressive distance. The Speed Pocket also increases forgiveness on low-face shots.

Hybrids

The 4 and 5 hybrids can be deployed almost anywhere on the course.

As you can imagine, they are lightweight and they swing fast.

They also ably take the place of the 4 and 5 irons that are missing from this set.

Irons

If you are in need of irons that launch high,  these are the ones for you.

Taylormade has concentrated weight in the soles of these irons to achieve higher-arcing shots.

That coupled with the unique sole geometry helps these irons perform well on any lie.

Wedges

The sand and pitching wedges feature a classic C sole grind.

The C grind is the most versatile and can be used for a wide variety of shots.

However, the best thing about the wedges are the deep grooves that give you superb spin control on approaches.

Putter

The putter (in a modern mallet head shape) features what Taylormade calls Pure Roll grooves.

The grooves are set at a 45 degree angle to promote forward roll which, is why they are especially handy on long putts.

Shafts

You get a choice between graphite and steel shafts in the irons, ensuring the clubs are perfect for average to fast swing speeds but also for seniors and slower swing speeds.

Callaway Edge 10 Piece Set – First Impressions & Club Break Downs

Because Callaway have seen the huge interested in the Strata beginner set, they have aimed the edge set at those improving golfers who want a high quality complete set to hit the course with.

Immediately noticeable when you look at the longer clubs is that they appear more solid and durable. They look more like something akin to the Callaway Mavrik Set than something for beginners.

Driver

The driver is a 10.5 degree club with a large head, massive sweet spot with a low COG and weighting in the back of the club for perfect trajectory and distance.

3 Wood

The 3 Wood has a large head and sweet spot too. the back weighting makes the club easy to get in the air from the fairway and if you struggle getting enough distance off the tee, the 3 wood is a perfect option for that too.

5 Hybrid

A perfect club from the fairway or the rough. The powerful head is built for distance but when coupled with the perimeter weighting, the club produces and excellent towering flight.

6 – 9 Iron

Cavity back irons that are game improvement but also have a deep undercut to allow you work the ball and add extra spin. The clubs are both long and forgiving with high MOI and low COG with tungsten weighting.

Also coming in a tough graphite shaft to suit fast, average and slow swing speeds.

You’ll enjoy hitting these as you make your approach to the green.

Wedges

The PW and the SW and both cavity back and the deep turf interaction with the higher lofts allows you to really attack the pin on your final approach to the green and add spin for the better players.

Putter

The putter in the edge set is one of the best clubs in the bag. It is a premium Odyssey White Hot Putter with visual alignment and tons of stability to keep you advancing on the hole with perfect accuracy.

Shafts

The longer clubs come with durable graphite shafts for faster swing speeds and you get a choice of steel or graphite in the irons. Fast swing speeds will tend to favor steel while beginners and slower swing speeds will favor the forgiveness of the graphite option.

One glaringly obvious omission in the Edge set is that there is no bag, it comes in a box!
