Callaway Big Bertha Vs. PXG 0811 Driver Comparison Overview

Do you prefer forgiveness or customization from your driver? This is an important question that is exemplified quite nicely when you compare the PXG 0811 to the Callaway Big Bertha driver. And while it is an important question, there is more to consider when comparing these 2 drivers.

Customization and forgiveness are just parts of the equation and the benefits that these 2 very different drivers bring to the table. To help you sort through all the features and benefits, take a look at our comparison overview.

Callaway Big Bertha Driver Overview

The Callaway Big Bertha is known for distance and forgiveness. When we tested it for ourselves, we found that it lives up to it’s reputation quite nicely.

Obviously, the oversized head and face of the Big Berth driver works to expand the sweet spot. However, we found that the forward oriented center of gravity of this driver also works to eliminate spin. Side spin rates off the tee were almost non-existent with  the Big Bertha driver.

The Big Bertha was also producing very straight shots that flew an average of 278 yards for our testers.  The downside to this was that our better testers could not work this driver to save their lives. It launches pretty high which can also be a drawback if you are playing in windy conditions.

Still, the best thing about this driver is that you won’t need a fast swing speed in order to get good distance out of it. The internal draw bias weighting will help correct your slice and new players will gain a lot of confidence from this driver overall.

 Driver Overview

You will be hard-pressed to find a driver that offers more CG and loft options than the PXG 0811.

Having the PXG 0811 in your bag is like having 5 different drivers. There are 16 adjustable weights so you can find the CG that feels best for you – if you have the time. We loved the fact that the moveable weights allowed for so much customization.

However, some of our testers were annoyed at how much you really need to sit down, swing and readjust this driver to find the perfect CG. On top of that, you have an adjustable hosel that can add or subtract 1.5 degrees to the loft.

Don’t get us wrong; all of this is a benefit. All we’re saying is that you will really have to take time to dial the PXG 0811 in. Once you do though, you will find that that it’s very comfortable and provides decent distance.

The Big Bertha was the longer driver overall but the PXG 0811 allowed us to attack holes more strategically.

If straighter, longer shots are what you’re after then you would do quite well with the Callaway Big  Bertha B21.

PXG 0811 Driver First Impressions

At first glance, we could see that the shape of the 0811 driver face was unique. It was deep (or tall depending on how you want to put it) and made for excellent spin ratio.

Right off the bat, the PXG 0811 driver played long. It worked to dramatically reduce spin off the tee and produced high-arcing shots.

Carry distance was also impressive. To say that this driver played long would be an understatement. Still, for all the distance, the 0811 driver is surprisingly forgiving.

PXG claims that by using a robotic face polishing process, they were able to add a slight curvature to the face. This may be what enhances the spin correction at impact and the forgiveness of this driver.

The 0811 Family

The 0811 driver family also includes the 0811 X Proto driver. The X Proto is the more forgiving driver but it does produce significantly more spin than the standard 0811.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 First Impressions

At first glance, the Big Bertha B21 will look inviting to high handicappers thanks to it’s oversized head.

The Driver is absolutely massive and it has a huge sweet spot which stretches in every direction on the drivers ultra thin steel face.

The weighting is low and deep in the head which leads to a low CG and high MOI, meaning long, high and straight shots.

The driver has all the stability you would expect from a Callaway too with it’s internal jailbreak bars.

The driver has considerably offset too, so if you suffer from a slice, this one is going to be an excellent choice.

It’s pretty easy to start upping your drive distance with the first few swings of the Big Bertha B21 due to it’s massive head and deep weighting.

This can be considered a super game improvement driver that will help you take your game to the next level.

Big Bertha Family

The Big Bertha rides solo but their are plenty of other options from Callaway for players looking for a different type of driver like the Mavrik and Epic Ranges.

PXG 0811 Driver  – Who is it for?

This driver would be a good choice for anyone who is looking for a combination of distance and feel.

The minimal spin of this driver can’t be denied. The deep face works in conjunction with the low, back weighting to produce high-arcing shots that carry further.

This is also a surprisingly long driver for PXG. The sloped crown will help if you have a downward attack on your drives.

Of course, the PXG 0811 feels excellent. But we would expect nothing less from a PXG club.
