Callaway Big Bertha Vs. Cobra LTDx Irons Comparison Overview

Callaway sort of set the standard for forgiving, game-improvement irons with the Big Bertha irons. It seems that everyone compares newer models with the Big Bertha’s in terms of usability and forgiveness. We have used the Big Bertha’s as a measuring stick numerous times ourselves.

Today, we do it again. With the new year, Cobra has released a new set of irons that promise a mixture of usability and short-game performance. So let’s see how the Cobra LTDx irons hold up against the fabled Big Bertha’s.

Callaway Big Bertha Irons Overview

The performance of the Big Bertha irons has always been marked by a large, forgiving head and high launch angles.

In our testing experience with the Big Bertha’s, which goes back years, the only two flaws that these irons have are that they are nearly unworkable and they can be a bit cumbersome for some players. When we tested them this time around against the Cobra LTDx irons, the same was true.

Compared to the Cobra LTDx irons, the Big Bertha’s were clunky – especially for our slower swing speed testers. However, launch was still higher with the Big Bertha set compares to the Cobra LTDx’s. Workability was almost the same between these two sets with the Cobra LTDx’s holding a slight edge.

The Big Bertha’s are still great for beginner players who are having a lot of trouble keeping the ball straight and out of the rough.

Cobra LTDx Irons Overview

The Cobra LTDx irons are Cobra’s latest offering and they do a better job of lending themselves to the playing styles of a wider array of players.

First and foremost, the Cobra LTDx irons distinguished themselves from the Big Bertha’s by being markedly more versatile. They have nice little touches that enhance the finesse of the set like milled faces and grooves.

Apart from that though, there really isn’t anything fancy about these irons. They perform well in many arenas because of the shaping – they’re small enough to be workable and big enough to be forgiving. The Big Bertha’s play longer but that should come as no surprise to any golfer.

You get higher launch, straighter shots and more distance with the Callaway Big Bertha irons. But if you’re looking for more short-game control and better usability across different types of lies, the Cobra LTDx irons are the better choice.

Cobra LTDx Irons – First Impressions

Even though these irons are new, they sport the same chunky sole that we have seen in previous Cobra models.

This was a comforting site for all the testers in our party. There’s no doubt that Cobra looked to make a stronger foray into the game-improvement iron market than they ever have before with the Cobra LTDx irons.

They launch high, increase forgiveness on low face misses and they flex to a high degree. What we were most impressed with though was that these irons still give you that Cobra players iron short game performance.

The grooves in the faces of the short irons are incredibly tight so you get an exceptional amount of short-game control from irons that fall into the game-improvement category.

Big Bertha B21 – First Impressions

The B21’s take on the legendary name of the Big Bertha series and these irons are super forgiving and easy to hit.

The Irons have been designed using Artificial Intelligence that ensures the very best weighting and features are included for maximum accuracy and forgiveness.

The clubs have a lot of loft, allowing you to get the ball in the air while the Tungsten Weighting keeps the center of gravity low.

You shouldn’t have any problems getting the ball in the air with these Irons.
