Callaway Big Bertha B21 Vs. Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Comparison & Review

We continued our battery of tests for the Callaway Rogue ST Max by placing it head to head with the Callaway Big Bertha Driver. There was no way we were going to omit the Big Bertha driver from a series of tests of a driver that claims to be supremely forgiving.

The Big Bertha is a staff favorite and rightly so. She has earned her name as a super-game improvement driver. So let’s see what happened when we tested her against the new Callaway Rogue ST Max driver.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 Driver Overview

The first thing everyone notices about the Big Bertha is that it’s well…big!

You can immediately see the oversized head from the bag and especially at point of address. As such, it gives you a nice, large sweet spot to work with and a sole that makes you feel that you can hit from any tee height.

What we love about the Big Bertha is that it has a unique low/forward weight emphasis. This helps you pull your swing down so you get good apex height; but it also eliminates a good deal of ball spin. This results in towering height and extra carry distance.

And it’s all pretty easy. Once you get over the sort of bulky feel of the Big Bertha, you can unlock nearly effortless height and distance.

Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver Overview

The Callaway Rogue ST Max also has a slight draw bias to help you correct a slice.

And like the Big Bertha, the new Callaway Rogue ST Max driver features Jailbreak bars and a carbon fiber crown. But the Callaway Rogue ST Max also bears a carbon fiber sole which is necessary because there is a whopping 26 grams of tungsten positioned in the rear of the head.

Like the Big Bertha, the Callaway Rogue ST Max has a very low CG so it produces great apex height and is easy to swing. Spin rates are a bit higher with the Callaway Rogue ST Max but in all, distance was almost identical to the Big Bertha.

The Big Bertha was more forgiving overall but our testers unanimously decreed that the Callaway Rogue ST Max was easier to pick up and start playing right away. It’s less awkward and clunky than the Big Bertha and also much more workable.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 First Impressions

At first glance, the Big Bertha B21 will look inviting to high handicappers thanks to it’s oversized head.

The Driver is absolutely massive and it has a huge sweet spot which stretches in every direction on the drivers ultra thin steel face.

The weighting is low and deep in the head which leads to a low CG and high MOI, meaning long, high and straight shots.

The driver has all the stability you would expect from a Callaway too with it’s internal jailbreak bars.

The driver has considerably offset too, so if you suffer from a slice, this one is going to be an excellent choice.

It’s pretty easy to start upping your drive distance with the first few swings of the Big Bertha B21 due to it’s massive head and deep weighting.

This can be considered a super game improvement driver that will help you take your game to the next level.

Big Bertha Family

The Big Bertha rides solo but their are plenty of other options from Callaway for players looking for a different type of driver like the Mavrik and Epic Ranges.

Callaway Rogue ST Max  Driver – First Impressions

After our first swing with the Roge ST Max, we were very impressed by how solid and satisfying it felt.

Part of the solid feel comes from the internal bracing bars that are more laterally expansive to provide body support both horizontally and vertically. That, coupled with the titanium low-profile body bracing make for an exceptionally solid driver with a nice, comfortable and low center of gravity.

The Callaway Rogue ST Max also features an adjustable hosel for fine-tuning your shot shape.

The Rogue ST Family

The Rogue ST Max is the only one with a 26 gram tungsten weight. The Rogue ST Max D, Rogue ST Max LS and Rogue ST LS have either 23 gram or 20 gram weights. The Rogue ST LS was the most workable of the bunch and produced the lowest spin off the tee.
