Callaway Big Bertha BB23 Vs Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons

ParadymAi vs BB23

2024 is here and a whole host of new irons are about to hit the market.

Callaway has struck first with their Paradym Ai Smoke irons, which are sure to be popular.

But how they compare with the super game improvement Big Bertha BB23 Irons released in 2023.

Callaway Big Bertha BB23 Irons Overview

The Big Bertha Irons carry on the supreme legacy of the Big Bertha name.

They are oversized, super game improvement irons that are designed to be super forgiving and easy to hit for the highest of handicappers and those who struggle to hit their irons well.

Super thick top lines and soles make these irons long and consistent.

They also sport 11gs of external Tungsten and 32gs of internal tungsten to stretch the sweet spot along the oversized blade.

The Ai AI-generated face cup technology ensures incredible ball speeds in the confidence-inspiring irons.

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons Overview

Ai Smoke Irons

Brand new for the 2024 season are the Paradym game improvement Irons which come in three distinct flavours, max, high launch and max fast.

The paradym ai Smoke max Irons have slighter weaker lofts than the BB23s. The result is higher ball flight, more spin and more stopping power on the greens.

They are also slightly shorter than the BB23s.

The Ai Smoke max Irons are hollow body distance Irons which are also quite long themselves.

The Ai generated smart face makes the clubs consistent across the face, especially when you catch the ball low on the face.

The pre-worn leading edge costs through the turf effortlessly and the dynamic sole increases the ball speed.

You can also mix and match with the max and hl for the shorter Irons, which will give more stopping power on the greens.

Overall

Overall the BB23 Irons are for players who really struggle with their Irons.

They are so big, they are almost like hybrids.

The Ai Smoke will suit high-to-mix handicap players looking for distance with a little more workability and stopping power on the greens.

For most players who are serious about the game, the Ai Smoke Irons will be better as they improve.

For eternal hackers, the bb23 Irons will be a solid bet.

Big Bertha BB23 Irons – First Impressions

These irons look really nice in the bag, the blue has been removed from the 21 version and the super forgivness features have been camoflaged to ensure that these irons look super slick in your bag.

These irons have longer blades, a thicker top line, a chunkier sole, and more offset to ensure that you get maximum forgiveness, distance, launch, and consistency from your clubs. These are perfect for beginners, high handicappers, slow swing speeds, and any golfer who is very inconsistent with they shots.

Slower swing speeds will get the launch and distance they want, due to light weight and ultra-low CG. Players that hit the ball all over the face will get that much-needed consistency in their ball flight.

Each iron is specially designed by A.I. and are progressive. The longer irons get good distance and the short irons have good stopping power on the greens.

Urethance Micropshers sit behind the 450 stainless steel face which gives super ball speeds for such a chunky iron while the sound and feel are also right up there with the best in the game improvement category.

Overall a great iron for anybody who wants ultimate forgiveness while sacrificing some distance and workability. It’s all about trade-offs in the Iron selection.

With the premium price point, we wouldn’t be rushing out to get these irons unless you are due an upgrade and they are the best clubs for you after fitting.

The hollow body players distance iron market is quite competitive.

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke First Impressions

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons4

“My first impression of the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons was that they were familiar.”

I love it when Callaway plays to their strengths and right away, I could tell the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons had classic Callaway design.

The face depth is about medium as is the width of the top line and the sole width. Again, very reminiscent of the size and shape of the Edge irons.

They look like they’re going to be forgiving at first glance and they live up to their initial appearance.

It took me just a couple of swings to get past the 170 yard carry mark with the 7-iron and I was also pretty pleased with the dispersion. Even on my toe-side mis-hits, I wasn’t over-drawing the ball.

Yes, I landed a little too right of the target, but the divergence was never greater than 9 yards.

Who Are the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons for?

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Irons5

In my humble opinion, I think the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons would be great for handicappers in the 17-23 range.

This is the area where you’re still going to need a good bit of distance and help staying on the fairway – two things that the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons do exceedingly well.

But if you have problems hitting the ball low, the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons are not for you.

For the naturally low hitter I would recommend the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL irons which, as you can probably guess, have weaker loft profiles which means higher launch.

In addition to the standard Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons, Callaway has released the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL and the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast iron sets.

As already discussed the HL version is a weaker-lofted, higher-launching set. The 7-iron HL checks in at 30° in comparison to the 28° lofted 7-iron of the standard Paradym Ai Smoke set.

The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke HL irons also have deeper cavity backs and are generally a bit more forgiving.

Then there are the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast irons which also feature a deep cavity back and even weaker lofts – the 7-iron is 31°.

The Max Fast irons boast a lighter design than the standard Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke irons so they would be better for slower swing speed players.
