Callaway Apex Ai 200 Irons Review – Are They The Best Players Distance Irons For Mid Handicappers?

The Callaway Apex AI 200 Irons are a beautiful looking players distance iron that take on the likes of the P790 and the T250 from Titleist.

The Irons are beautifully clean from the back, with strong black badge displaying the Apex logo.

They have compact heads and a thin top line to appeal to the better players while producing speed, power, feel and consistency for strikes anywhere on the face.

Callaway Apex Ai 200 Irons Overview & Tech

These irons are packed with the latest, refined technology to have their chance at being the best Apex irons ever produced.

The 455 Forged Cup Face and the 455 forged body are responsible for the beautiful sound and feel we achieve with the irons.

The Ai Smart face takes data from 100’s of golfers and attempts to fix every miss possible.

We have urethane microspheres behind the face also that add to the butter soft, yet powerful feel.

Dynamic soles cut through the turf effortlessly and the Metal Injection Moulding places dense tungsten in the optimal locations for a lower center of gravity and improved ball flight.

Callaway say they have added more spin to the new Apex models after the last Callaway irons didn’t spin as much as intended.

We found the flight to be lower than other players distance models, with less spin and and longer ball flight, partially due to the strong lofts.

Are The Callaway Apex Ai200 Irons Forgiving?

These are not super forgiving game improvement irons for high handicappers.

They have smaller, more compact blades with a thinner top line than something like the AI smoke.

That being said, they are forgiving and consistent across the face for Mid Handicappers and golfers looking to improve at the game.

If forgiveness is you primary concern, the AI200’s is not the best bet, if you want a forgiving, long and consistent, mid handicap iron, they are great.

Are The AI 200 Irons Blades

Blades are the most compact and precise irons in the game, aimed towards low handicap golfers.

The Ai200 are more forgiving than that.

They are Players Distance irons, that are middle of the road between super forgiving Game Improvement Irons and Blades.

Should you Buy the AI200 Or The Ai300?

The AI300 Irons are more for game improvers, they have thicker top lines, chunkier soles and longer blades to inspire more confidence at address.

They have more distance, lower flight and less spin than the Ai200.

The AI300 are for golfers who want to get the ball down the hole consistently. Forgiveness is the main concern over control, spin and precision.

The AI200 is for mid handicap golfers. who strike the ball more consistently and want something with good distance, pure feel, accuracy and stopping power on the greens.

They are for improving golfers and those looking for consistency.

Both sets are quite expensive, especially the AI300’s for golfers who are just starting out in the game.

Callaway Apex Ai200 First Impressions

The irons look clean yet powerful, A minimalist design with a strong black badge to highlight the power held within.

We have the traditional rounded Callaway head shape and the design has a compact blade, thin top lines and minimal offset.

The clubs offer power, precision and consistency for clean strikers of the ball.

The sound and feel of the Forged body and face is soft and the acoustics are premium too.

We like the high ball flight and improved spin rates too with a relatively steep descent angle.

They aren’t as good at catching the greens like the P790 or the T250 but they are longer playing and in the same bracket as something like the Ping i530.

Overall, excellent, clean looking irons that will appeal to a mid range of high handicappers.

Who Are The Callaway Apex Ai200 Irons For?

The Callaway Apex AI irons will suit mid handicappers and anybody that is improving at the game.

They don’t have the massive oversize heads of a game improvement iron or the the small precision of a blade.

They are in the middle for distance, power and consistency.

Some low handicappers and pros will also use the irons for the longer irons while have something more accurate in the scoring irons.
