Bushnell V5 Shift Vs Bushnell Pro XE Comparison Overview

One thing we really like about Bushnell rangefinders is the simplicity and ease of use. The V5 Shift and the Pro XE rangefinders are two models that perfectly embody these benefits.

Even with some of the advanced features that you will find in the Bushnell Pro XE model, the company does a great job of presenting them in a way that is manageable and not distracting.

In other words, no matter which you choose (the Bushnell V5 Shift or the Bushnell Pro XE), you will be able to focus on your performance – not on trying to figure out all the different modes of your rangefinder.

In the following article we are going to be comparing these two very useful Bushnell models to give you a better idea of which would suit your needs.

Bushnell V5 Shift Overview

The Bushnell V5 Shift is a bit more stripped down than the Pro XE model but it still has the essentials that will actually improve your performance on the course.

For starters, the Bushnell V5 Shift weighs only 8 ounces. It’s super lightweight, you can throw it in your bag without worrying about it breaking and it’s even covered by a 2-year warranty in case anything happens.

While the chassis may not be made of the most premium materials (mostly plastic), what you lose in luxury appointments you gain in reliability and usability. Indeed, the best thing the Bushnell V5 Shift has going for it is how easy it is to use – even for beginners.

For the price, you would be hard-pressed to find another rangefinder that provides you with what the Bushnell V5 Shift does.

Bushnell Pro XE Overview

The Bushnell Pro XE is a step up from the Bushnell V5 Shift in key ways that have to do with usability and quality of life perks.

First of all, the Pro XE is made of sturdier stuff. It has a metal/rubber chassis that feels more substantial in the hands. Of course, that means the Pro XE also weighs more at 11 ounces.

While the Pro XE is taller and weighs a bit more, it is actually slimmer than the Bushnell V5 Shift so it has a sleeker profile. There are other upgrades that we will discuss in the features section.

The Bushnell Pro XE is a great rangefinder when you need even more precise distance readings.

Bushnell V5 Shift First Impressions

The Bushnell V5 Shift felt like it was going to be cheap but we were very happy to find out that our initial assessment was very wrong.

Despite the mostly plastic construction, the Bushnell V5 Shift performs above it’s price range.

Key Features

The Bushnell V5 Shift has some of the classic features that golfers have come to expect from Bushnell.

Namely, the “BITE” magnet that allows you to attach this rangefinder to any metal surface. Next is the pin-locking feature that vibrates when it locks onto the pin.

Speaking of the pin, the Bushnell V5 Shift can lock onto the pin so long as it’s between 5 and 400 yards. The longest target range that the Bushnell V5 Shift can pick up is 1,300 yards.

The Bushnell V5 Shift also has slope compensation technology and gives very accurate “plays like” distances based on incline/decline. You can switch this feature off to make it tournament legal as well. The lens offers 6x magnification and an LCD display.

The features are easy to figure out within the first half of your round.

Bushnell Pro XE First Impressions

The Pro XE feels like a premium rangefinder right out of the box.

Plus, it can still be had for under $500, making it a great value.

Key Features

The Pro XE has all the same features as the Bushnell V5 Shift but with a few upgrades.

For one thing, the Pro XE lens is capable of 7x magnification and has a clearer backlit display. The Pro XE is also waterproof rated at IPX7. However, the range finding max distance is still the same: 1,300 yards, probably more than you’ll ever need.

The Pro XE model is also compatible with the Bushnell Golf App which gives you 3D layouts of the course you are on right on your smartphone as well as individual hole layouts.

Last but not least, the Pro XE will account for temperature and barometric pressure in it’s distance readings giving you the most accurate plays like distances. We were also using this feature to help us with club selection.”

Almost everything is more advanced with the Bushnell Pro XE.
