The Cleveland Launcher series of hybrid irons has long been the gold standard. With a ridiculously high MOI and 3-tiered sole, it is a high handicappers dream.

What we really liked about the short irons in these clubs right away was how smoothly they glided through turf.

And not just turf; our testers were able to accurately strike the ball from sand traps with these hybrid irons as well. The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo 5-DW Mens Right Hand Irons also feature an 8 gram counter weight in the butt of the grip.

This creates a unique swing balance that gives you more leverage on your downswing. The result for us was more powerful swings and more distance. The only thing we didn’t like about these hybrid irons was the plastic-like back panel which makes them look a bit tacky.

#2 – Cobra Golf 2020 T-Rail Combo Set – Best Premium

After we convened to share our test notes on the Cobra Golf 2020 T-Rail Combo Set, we were amazed at how many of us had the same initial reaction to these clubs: that they look awesome.

It’s clear that these hybrid irons were meant for beginners but they have a premium look that belies their forgiving nature.

The Cobra Golf 2020 T-Rail Combo Set features a hollow-body design which lets the face float free.

Ball speed was pretty impressive with these hybrid irons which more often than not, led to distance increases. The average distance increase for our test group with the 7-iron was 6 yards.

These hybrid irons have a sleek all-black finish with forged steel faces that give them a feel that is much better than your average hybrid irons. These would be great for mid to high handicappers.

#3 – Japan WaZaki 4-SW Hybrid Iron Set – Best Budget

If you want to prioritize forgiveness above all else with your next set of irons, the Japan WaZaki 4-SW Hybrid Iron Set would be a perfect fit for you.

Not only are they affordable (about $400 for a set) but they are extremely forgiving thanks to variable face thickness faces.

Our testers noted that heel shots were flying abnormally straight. And while shots near the toe were still drawing a bit, it was never as bad as it should have been.

These hybrid irons also come with graphite shafts which is a nice touch for beginners.

They also sport a PVD finish which gives them a unique look. Every club in the set comes with its own head cover too!

But that was just at first glance. When we got them on the course we were impressed with the progressive sole design.

#5 – PXG 0211 Z Hybrid Iron Set – Best for Beginners

PXG isn’t exactly known for its beginner, entry-level golf clubs. But in the past few years they have been getting on trend with user-friendly clubs.

The PXG 0211 Z Hybrid Iron Set is beefy with wide soles and confidence-building top lines.

They feature hollow-body design so they play very hot from the 6 iron to the sand wedge.

We were a bit disappointed by the busy, plastic-y back panel of these irons but we were impressed with the launch they produced.

This is a great set for anyone who has trouble getting the ball up in the air. The wide soles help produce great carry distance and the best part: you don’t need a fast swing speed to get good total distance out of them.

The entire set comes stock with graphite shafts which significantly lowers overall weight. But the heads are made of lightweight material too.

The Majek Pink Senior Ladies Golf Hybrids Irons also have a very low CG which really helps you launch the ball high.

There is mass placed behind the sweet spot of these hybrid irons too thanks to the weight savings from the shaft and head.

When you pure the ball with these irons, you can really feel it and see it. They produce great distance and would be excellent for any lady golfer trying to increase her swing speed.

The Orlimar Golf Clubs Stratos Combo Hybrid Iron Set features nice and wide faces which give you a lot of lateral leeway.

We found that side-to-side forgiveness was greatly improved by this feature. Heel shots were flying straighter and extreme toe strikes were producing less of a draw.

The Orlimar Golf Clubs Stratos Combo Hybrid Iron Set also features deep cavity backs (covered) which also helps with forgiveness.

Shot dispersion was also surprisingly tight with this set of hybrid irons. However, we were a bit disappointed with distance overall.

We think the Cleveland Golf Launcher Turbo HB Iron Set would be great for mid handicappers because as you work down the set to the short irons, they take on a more traditional blade-iron look.

This helps with accuracy and scoring.

Don’t get the wrong idea though. These irons are still plenty forgiving with hollow heads that produce great distance almost effortlessly.

There is plenty of offset too so they will help you straighten out your slice. You can get these hybrid irons with graphite or steel shafts too.

We liked that these hybrid irons have a low CG that you can really feel on your swing. They feature a deep cavity back which helps with weight savings and also gives them a sleek look.

The backs still look a bit plastic-y but we can forgive that in light of the versatile design that would be great for mid handicappers.

• They scratch easily

What we were really impressed with right off the bat though was how well the sole prevents chunking.

The Wilson Golf Staff Launch Pad Golf Iron Set has weak loft though so they produce higher launching shots, which will be a boon to most beginners and high handicappers.

And that’s exactly who we would recommend these hybrid irons to: beginners and high handicappers. The Wilson Golf Staff Launch Pad Golf Iron Set also looks pretty cool for a hybrid iron set.

They aren’t super huge which is nice but they still provide a high degree of forgiveness for those who need it.

#11 – Ram Golf Laser Hybrid Irons Set

The Ram Golf Laser Hybrid Irons Set comes with stock steel shafts in regular flex and they are some of the most affordable clubs on our list.

In fact, you can score a complete set for around $200! They look really unique too. The crowns have a white/red color scheme while the sole is chrome.

You can also get these hybrid irons with graphite shafts if you prefer. What we liked about these hybrid irons right away was how light they were.

They were designed to help increase swing speed and we would say the designers succeeded in that area.

However, that didn’t always equate to longer shots for our testers. They noted that the face comes off kind of erratically and that they don’t produce tight shot dispersion.

Still, they would be great for beginners. The turf interaction was pretty good too. Our testers noted significantly less chunking.

Pros:

• Good anti-chunk hybrid irons
• They look pretty cool
• Very affordable

Cons:

• They feel a bit unbalanced
• Not great for accuracy
