Best Fairway Woods For Seniors 2023 – Get The Best For Slower Swing Speeds

Golf is the number one game for seniors to stay active, socialize and have fun and the game is a lot more fun when you are playing well.

The fairway wood is one of the most important clubs in the bag as it can be hit from the tee, fairway or even the light rough and getting the correct set up is key to your success.

While plenty of the clubs on our list today will do a lot of the work for you, having a light weight shaft with the correct length and flex os going to have a big impact on how the club performs overall.

There is also the loft and if you are struggling to get some airtime as a slower swing speed player, you may need to bring more loft into your fairway wood game.

We have got an option for every type of senior player and what they are looking for from a fairway wood in today’s list so let’s jump straight in.

Cobra Airspeed Fairway Wood – Best Choice For Seniors

A fairway wood that is built with seniors directly in mind with it’s light weight configuration.

A Carbon crown and deep, low weighting provides a high launch and longer distance for slow swing speeds and the club cuts the turf with ease on the fairway.

In 20 Words Or Less

The Cobra Airspeed fairway wood is a low profile, sleek fairway wood that launches high and is workable. It has a light weight configuration for slower swing speeds to achieve maximum distance.

Cobra Airspeed Fairway Wood – First Impressions

The Cobra Airspeed sort of put us off when we first took a good look at it.

It has a shallower face than what we were used to – almost like a hybrid club. So at first, we were a bit wary of how it would perform and how hard it might be to get consistent with it.

To our delight though, the face depth wasn’t really an issue. The Cobra Airspeed may have a smaller sweet spot than we would like; but the pronounced offset makes up for it in a way.

It’s very easy to square up to the ball with this club and it launches high with almost no effort. There is even weight concentrated in the back heel to produce an inherent draw bias.

Cobra Fairway Wood Family

The Cobra Speedzone fairway wood carries on the torch of lightweight design with hollow baffler rails.

While not as light as the Airspeed, the Speedzone fairway wood is still forgiving and features an upgraded CNC milled face.

Cobra Airspeed Selling Points

  • Carbon fiber crown
  • Heel weighting
  • Pronounced offset
  • Cobra Airspeed 45/50 shaft

Titleist TSi1 Fairway Wood – Best Premium Option

In 20 Words Or Less

The Titleist TSi1 has all the premium features you would expect from Titleist in a lightweight package.

Titleist TSi1 Fairway Wood – First Impressions

When we first took the Titleist TSi1 fairway wood to the course for testing, we were immediately taken with how light it was.

We were well aware of all the marketing: that it was lightweight and designed to help moderate swing speed players up their speed. But we didn’t know what we were in for when we started swinging.

The Titleist TSi1 produces almost immediate increases in club head speed as evidenced by our launch monitor readouts.

What also struck us about this club was that there was almost no jarring transition. It was exceptionally lighter than most of the fairway woods we were used to; but it didn’t take more than 3 swings for us to get the hang of it.

The larger head profile really feels comfortable and familiar while the weight savings effectively increases club head speeds.

The adjustable hosel also helps with shot shaping although in the end, the Titleist TSi1 fairway wood was not very workable. It  plays long, launches high and will help you increase your swing speed though.

Titleist TSi1 Selling Points

  • Adjustable hosel
  • Active Recoil Channel
  • Large head
  • Aldila Ascent shaft

Who is the Titleist TSi1 for?

The Titleist TSi1 was clearly made for players who are looking for some help with swing speed. The club head speed readouts from our launch monitor confirmed the assertion that this club simply helps you swing faster. That, coupled with the generous head size, makes for a fairway wood that will help you reach more greens in regulation.

The B21 lives up to its famous name and delivering tower distance, forgiveness and most importantly, straight shots consistently.

In 20 Words or Less

The ultimate game improvement weapon, great price for extraordinary performance and the easiest fairway woods to hit straight in the game today hands down.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 Fairway First Impressions

At first the price seemed a bit off putting, can something that is so much cheaper than the top of the range models actually compete with the best?

Boy were we wrong, this fairway wood is the high handicap golfers dream. It is so easy to launch and the design of the head will give anyone confidence.

The larger profile and slight offset, will work well for a high handicap golfer struggling with a slice.

The A.I technology and Jailbreak technology work very well, from the get go we could see the forgiveness was outstanding and ball speeds were high. Something any high handicap golfer would die for.

Just be careful, this club is truly aimed at a high handicap player, it spins quite a lot which helps the ball get up in the air, and the offset is quite prominent. If you are someone that draws the ball, we suggest looking at a different fairway wood, the offset will cause you to hook the ball.

It is not adjustable, this may be off putting to some of the better golfers.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 Fairway Family

Callaway have designed this club to stand on its own, it is purely a game improvement club.

If the Big Bertha B21 fairway wood is not for you, then we suggest looking at something like the Mavrik or Epic Flash, these two options will have less of an offset, and promote a lower spin rate, allowing you to control the ball more.

Be careful as the head size will be smaller and it will have less forgiveness.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 Selling Points

  • Cheap price point
  • Jailbreak technology for faster ball speeds
  • Big offset for straight shots
  • A.I design
  • Larger profile, making it easier to hit

Who is The Callaway Big Bertha B21 Fairway For?

Every mid to high handicap player needs to give this fairway wood a try. It is so easy to hit, and the offset helps a lot with fixing your slice.

The technology built into the club gives your great ball speed and incredible forgiveness.

Already a couple of years old the Taylormade Sim Max Fairway wood is still a classic.

This Wood is built for distance, launch and forgivness. Hook this up with a lightweight shaft and you have the perfect recipie for long high and consistent shots.

In 20 Words or Less

The look, sound and ball speed all speak for themselves, this thing is incredibly long, forgiving and easy to hit.

TaylorMade SIM Fairway First Impressions

It was love at first sight, everything about this club just oozes confidence. The paint lines, the shape, to how square it sits, the SIM fairway is magnificent.

We definitely saw ball speeds like we have never seen before, the Zatech Titanium they claim gives you more speed clearly works.

With all that ball speed you wouldn’t expect much forgiveness, but boy were we wrong, all the technology built into it works like a charm. The Speed Pocket and V Steel sole work hand in hand, low struck shots still have great ball speeds and every shot slides through the turf with ease.

TwistFace is something sent from the golfing Gods, heel and toe struck shots fly much straighter than we have seen before, don’t get us wrong, they don’t fly straight down the middle, but the ball definitely doesn’t go as far left or right than you would normally expect.

We loved the adjustability of the club, it allowed us to really get the club dialed in.

Callaway Rogue ST Max Fairway Woods

The longest and most stable fairway wood that Callaway have ever released, the Rogue ST Max.

This one has low, frontal COG for distance and jailbreak batwings for stability. This one is incredibly long forgiving and easy to hit from most lies or off the tee.

In 20 words or less

The Callaway Rogue ST MAX definitely lives up to being the longest fairway wood they have created and it’s also known for it’s super stability and forgiveness.

Callaway Rogue ST Fairway First Impression

Straight away we could see that the Rogue ST MAX lives up to what Callaway has said, it is definitely the longest fairway wood we have ever hit.

You would expect the ball to come out lower and run further, but that is not the case, the ball launched high, and seems to go forever.

The Tungsten Speed Cartridge definitely plays a part in that, and the newly designed Jailbreak is outstanding, the fairway wood was incredibly forgiving, we could barely tell the difference between good and bad shots.

Similar to the TaylorMade Stealth, we were disappointed in the Rogue ST MAX not being adjustable.

Callaway Rogue ST Fairway Family

Callaway do have two additional models in this range, the Rogue ST MAX D and Rogue ST LS.

The Rogue ST MAX D is their draw bias head, how they have done this is making the face slightly closed, upright lie angle, and additional weight in the heel. Anyone that struggles with a draw should consider this model.

The other model is the Rogue ST LS, it is the low spin option. They placed the tungsten weight further towards the face of the club, this brings down the spin drastically. This is definitely for the better player.

We are quite disappointed that all three models do not have adjustability, you would expect the Rogue ST LS being the more players club to have some sort of adjustability.

Callaway Rogue ST MAX Fairway Selling Points

  • Jailbreak technology helps with distance and forgiveness
  • Definitely their longest fairway ever made
  • Comes in three different models
  • Has a number of loft options

Who is the Callaway Rogue ST Fairway for?

This model is aimed at the mid to high handicap player, it launches high and is incredibly forgiving.

This is Callaway’s longest fairway wood they have ever made, so if you are looking for some extra distance in your fairway, we would suggest giving the Rogue ST MAX a try.

The Jailbreak technology really works, it is very forgiving which would help most golfers out there.

It sits very square at address position, The Rogue ST LS sits slightly open and Max D version sits slightly closed, this should be considered when purchasing this fairway.

Cobra Speedzone Fairway Wood

The Speedzone name gives it away, this one is built for speed and distance.

As a senior, this club is going miles with the right shaft and it is also very forgiving. It has a sharp leading edge too, making it perfect to hit form the light rough.

In 20 Words Or Less

The Cobra Speedzone fairway wood is congenial for many kinds of players and viable in a wide variety of lies.

Cobra Speedzone Fairway – First Impressions

We were first taken with the unique profile of this club.

The Cobra Speedzone fairway wood almost feels like a hybrid club thanks to the squat face profile. As such, it does work pretty well as a rescue club.

The baffler rails fall in line with this use as they help smooth out  harsh turf interaction without making the club head cumbersome.

Cobra Speedzone Fairway Family

Included in the Speedzone family is the Speedzone Tour and the Speedzone Big Tour. As the name implies, the Speedzone Big Tour has a large footprint and a 173CC head size.

It launches high, spins low and is suitable for high handicap players. The Speedzone Tour has the smallest head of the bunch at just 148CC. It is the most workable Speedzone fairway but it wouldn’t be a great choice for high handicappers.

Cobra Speedzone Fairway Wood Selling Points

  • Hollow baffler rails
  • CNC milled face
  • Carbon fiber crown
  • Seamless sweet spot

Who is the Cobra Speedzone Fairway Wood for?

The great thing about this fairway wood is that we can see it being used effectively by both high and low handicappers. While it may not be super-effective from the tee, it really shines from the deck.

Higher handicap players will like how easy it is to launch the ball with the Cobra Speedzone fairway wood and lower handicappers will love the low spin rates. Our single-digit handicap testers also really liked this club for long approaches. The launch control allowed them to consistently stick the landing on elevated greens.

The only knock that we have on this club is the fixed hosel. We feel like the Cobra Speedzone fairway wood could have been about 5 times more versatile and useful if there was an adjustable hosel. Still a great club for players of all skill levels though.

Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo Fairway Wood

Another club that is built for distance and fogiveness.

The club has a massive head and sweet spot but is suprisingly light when coupled with the right shaft.

The Turbo has been around the block too and is always very well reviewed.

In 20 Words Or Less

A very unique fairway wood that will provide instant increases in swing speed and launch.

Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo Fairway Wood – First Impressions

The first thing we noticed about this club was how good it looks.

The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo has the look of a premium club without the premium price tag. Even the sole looks sophisticated with a “multi-step” design. The design isn’t just around to look nice either.

The terraced sole helps with tuf interaction. While not the best in the rough, the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo fairway wood has a nice, smooth feel off the deck and in most normal lies.

The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo fairway wood is also surprisingly lightweight. It also has a fixed hosel and the crown is made of a very thin, lite metal. This is part of what helped most of our testers increase their swing speed with a 3 wood.

The Cleveland Fairway Wood Family

If you’re looking for an even smoother sweep off the deck, you should check out the Cleveland XL Halo fairway wood. The first thing you’ll notice about the XL Halo is the head size.

It has a nice, big, beefy footprint so right off the bat, it’s plenty forgiving. The rear weighting and high MOI is also perfect for beginners and high handicappers.

But where the XL Halo really shines is in difficult lies. Even in hardpan lies, the XL Halo seems to smooth out your swing and launch the ball high.

Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo Selling Points

  • Variable face thickness
  • HiBor crown
  • Counter-balance shaft
  • Light hosel

Who is the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo Fairway Wood for?

The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo would be great for any player who is looking for a versatile fairway wood that will deliver in a wide variety of lies. It’s also really great at correcting a rightward miss.

Taylormade M6 Fairway Wood

The Taylormade M6 Fairway wood isn’t the newest or flashiest option anymore but it still packs a serious punch in terms of distance.

If you want to see your shots sailing effortlessly towards the green with a ton of distance, launch, forgiveness and consistency, the M6 is one of the best options around for your game.

In 20 Words Or Less

The Taylormade M6 will help you hit the ball straighter and more consistently from the tee or fairway.

Taylormade M6 Fairway Wood – First Impressions

The Taylormade M6 fairway wood impressed us with how well it worked off the tee. Some of our higher handicap testers were sneaking off to the range with the M6 outside of their test schedule.

In the end, we’re glad they did because they were able to provide us with a few more insights to the Taylormade M6’s performance.

One interesting thing they told us is that topping the ball was much less of an issue with the Taylormade M6 as it was with other woods – and we’re talking about off the tee.

They also mentioned that the slight offset of the M6 was actually advantageous from the tee because, in tandem with the Twist Face structure, it allowed for better targeting ability.

Taylormade M6 Selling Points

  • Twist face technology
  • Speed pocket
  • Low CG
  • Viable off the tee

Who is the Taylormade M6 Fairway Wood for?

The Titleist TSi3 is certainly for players who are able to work the ball pretty well. In fact, it’s best performance characteristics would be lost on players who can’t. It still offers good distance features; but has a lower natural shot trajectory that will appeal to lower handicap players.
