Best 3 Woods Off The Tee 2023 – For More Accuracy & Better Launch

Hitting accurate shots off the tee is paramount to having a good round on the course.

Wayward shots mean lost balls, bad lies, and recovery shots. These all add unnecessary strokes and can even make the game infuriating to play.

The driver is the biggest and most wieldy club in the bag. It gets the most distance but can also be prone to going further off target, commonly with a slice.

Hitting a 3 wood off the tee is a great option for anyone struggling with their driver. It offers more accuracy and a tighter dispersion.

On shorter holes and doglegs, it can also be the perfect club to put yourself in the ideal position for approaching the green.

Factors You Need To Consider:

Loft:

Basically determines the launch angle of the ball on impact. If you struggle to get the driver in the air, the extra loft will certainly help.

Shaft Flex:

The amount the club bends on impact. Higher swing speeds need a stiffer shaft and slower swing speeds need a more flexible offering.

Club Head:

A bigger club head should offer a bigger sweet spot and should also be easier to hit correctly. Some club heads even come with more offset to reduce the effects of a slice.

If you are looking to play a 3 wood off the tee in 2023, we have got everybody covered in today’s list, so lets jump straight in.

Taylormade Sim 2 Max 3 Wood – Best Overall

Loft: 15 Degrees

The larger, 190 cc head of the Sim 2 Max fairway wood, make the club an excellent option of the tee.

The max version is also built with forgiveness in mind. Golfers will benefit from advanced distance and straight shots with the Sim 2 Max.

Sim 2 In 20 Words Or Less

The ultimate all-around fairway wood for all handicap levels. Long, straight, and forgiving, this one is great off the tee or the deck.

TaylorMade SIM2 First Impressions

The first thing we noticed about this model is the size of the head, compared to the SIM the 170cc makes the SIM2 a much smaller looking club, definitely something to consider when purchasing the club.

Maybe it’s because of the more compacted head, but my word did we see some crazy ball speeds. The Zatech Titanium and precise weighing really complement each other here, these ball speeds were some of the fastest we have ever seen.

The V Steel and Speed Pocket worked like a charm, unbelievable turf interaction on every shot, the club just slid through the turf with ease, and all low struck shots kept their ball speeds up.

TwistFace is remarkable, shots struck towards the heel and toe, came out much straighter and further than we would expect with any other club.

The adjustability allowed us to get really dialed.

TaylorMade SIM2 Fairway Selling Points

  • V Steel helps with turf interaction
  • Speed Pocket keeps ball speed up on low struck shots
  • Adjustable loft sleeve
  • TwistFace helps with forgiveness and distance

Who Is The TaylorMade SIM2 Fairway For

TaylorMade SIM2 is a Tour looking head, it has a small profile, so it will definitely suit the better golfer.

It is very low spinning, meaning you will need some good clubhead speed to get the ball up in the air.

The adjustability is great, it allows you to dial in the face angle and loft.

Really, the only thing that these fairway woods are lacking is a high degree of workability.

This is a long, straight and easy launching 3 wood that’s available for just over $100.

The Turbocharge face ensures incredible ball speeds and the Hi bore crown adds a level of consistency.

This one feels sweet when you hit the sweet spot.

In 20 Words Or Less

A very unique fairway wood that will provide instant increases in swing speed and launch.

Our First Impressions

The first thing we noticed about this club was how good it looks.

The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo has the look of a premium club without the premium price tag. Even the sole looks sophisticated with a “multi-step” design. The design isn’t just around to look nice either.

The terraced sole helps with tuf interaction. While not the best in the rough, the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo fairway wood has a nice, smooth feel off the deck and in most normal lies.

The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo fairway wood is also surprisingly lightweight. It also has a fixed hosel and the crown is made of a very thin, lite metal. This is part of what helped most of our testers increase their swing speed with a 3 wood.

Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo Selling Points

  • Variable face thickness
  • HiBor crown
  • Counter-balance shaft
  • Light hosel

Who is the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo Fairway Wood for?

Callaway Big Bertha B21 3 Wood – Best For A Slice

Loft: 15 Degrees

The Big Bertha B21 carries a famous name and this club certainly lives up to the lineage.

This one offers people who slice an excellent option, especially off the tee.

the club is offset for slice correction and it packs all the features you need for excellent distance.

In 20 Words or Less

The ultimate game improvement weapon, great price for extraordinary performance and the easiest fairway woods to hit straight in the game today hands down.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 Fairway First Impressions

At first the price seemed a bit off putting, can something that is so much cheaper than the top of the range models actually compete with the best?

Boy were we wrong, this fairway wood is the high handicap golfers dream. It is so easy to launch and the design of the head will give anyone confidence.

The larger profile and slight offset, will work well for a high handicap golfer struggling with a slice.

The A.I technology and Jailbreak technology work very well, from the get go we could see the forgiveness was outstanding and ball speeds were high. Something any high handicap golfer would die for.

Just be careful, this club is truly aimed at a high handicap player, it spins quite a lot which helps the ball get up in the air, and the offset is quite prominent. If you are someone that draws the ball, we suggest looking at a different fairway wood, the offset will cause you to hook the ball.

It is not adjustable, this may be off putting to some of the better golfers.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 Fairway Family

Callaway have designed this club to stand on its own, it is purely a game improvement club.

If the Big Bertha B21 fairway wood is not for you, then we suggest looking at something like the Mavrik or Epic Flash, these two options will have less of an offset, and promote a lower spin rate, allowing you to control the ball more.

Be careful as the head size will be smaller and it will have less forgiveness.

Callaway Big Bertha B21 Selling Points

  • Cheap price point
  • Jailbreak technology for faster ball speeds
  • Big offset for straight shots
  • A.I design
  • Larger profile, making it easier to hit

Who is The Callaway Big Bertha B21 Fairway For?

Every mid to high handicap player needs to give this fairway wood a try. It is so easy to hit, and the offset helps a lot with fixing your slice.

The technology built into the club gives your great ball speed and incredible forgiveness.

The price point is the real killer here, what you pay for what you get is an absolute steal.

Feel & Control: 90/100

Accuracy: 94/100

Forgiveness: 96/100

Our first impression of the Cobra LTDx wasn’t as good as we had hoped. The look and the colors didn’t stand out to us. But when we put the club behind the ball our views changed a little.

Once we started hitting it, that is when things changed even more. Instantly we saw awesome ball speeds on every shot. The forgiveness was incredible. Low struck shots seemed to still launch high, and didn’t lose too much ball speed.

Cobra Airspeed 3 Wood – Best For Seniors And Slow Swing Speeds

Configures with lightweight components. The airspeed packs all the punch of a cobra, but for a slower swing speed.

The Airspeed also has 16 degrees of loft and you should be able to get some air time quite with the Cobra Airspeed.

The name says it all really, easily in the air and with decent speed too.

In 20 Words Or Less

The Cobra Airspeed fairway wood is a low profile, sleek fairway wood that launches high and is workable. It has a light weight configuration for slower swing speeds to achieve maximum distance.

Cobra Airspeed Fairway Wood – First Impressions

The Cobra Airspeed sort of put us off when we first took a good look at it.

It has a shallower face than what we were used to – almost like a hybrid club. So at first, we were a bit wary of how it would perform and how hard it might be to get consistent with it.

To our delight though, the face depth wasn’t really an issue. The Cobra Airspeed may have a smaller sweet spot than we would like; but the pronounced offset makes up for it in a way.

It’s very easy to square up to the ball with this club and it launches high with almost no effort. There is even weight concentrated in the back heel to produce an inherent draw bias.

Cobra Fairway Wood Family

The Cobra Speedzone fairway wood carries on the torch of lightweight design with hollow baffler rails.

While not as light as the Airspeed, the Speedzone fairway wood is still forgiving and features an upgraded CNC milled face.

Cobra Airspeed Selling Points

  • Carbon fiber crown
  • Heel weighting
  • Pronounced offset
  • Cobra Airspeed 45/50 shaft

Who is the Cobra Airspeed for?

The Cobra Airspeed fairway wood would also be a great choice for senior players or anyone who has taken a hiatus from golf and is trying to pick it up again.

The longest and most stable Fiarway wood that Callaway have produced to date.

This one comes in 3 versions:

Max for most forgiveness and easy launch.

Max D for the slicers

LS: Low Spin for consistency and workable striking.

This is a premium club that wont let you down off the tee.

In 20 words or less

The Callaway Rogue ST MAX definitely lives up to being the longest fairway wood they have created and it’s also known for it’s super stability and forgiveness.

Callaway Rogue ST Fairway First Impression

Straight away we could see that the Rogue ST MAX lives up to what Callaway has said, it is definitely the longest fairway wood we have ever hit.

You would expect the ball to come out lower and run further, but that is not the case, the ball launched high, and seems to go forever.

The Tungsten Speed Cartridge definitely plays a part in that, and the newly designed Jailbreak is outstanding, the fairway wood was incredibly forgiving, we could barely tell the difference between good and bad shots.

Similar to the TaylorMade Stealth, we were disappointed in the Rogue ST MAX not being adjustable.

Callaway Rogue ST Fairway Family

Callaway do have two additional models in this range, the Rogue ST MAX D and Rogue ST LS.

Titleist TSi1 Fairway Wood – (Best For Slow Swing Speeds)

The Tsi1 is built especially for slow swing speeds and seniors.

That being said, it has all the features that make Titleist the most popular brand of club on tour.

This one commands a premium price. Probably ideal for seniors with some spare pocket change to spend.

In 20 Words Or Less

The Titleist TSi1 has all the premium features you would expect from Titleist in a lightweight package.

Titleist TSi1 Fairway Wood – First Impressions

When we first took the Titleist TSi1 fairway wood to the course for testing, we were immediately taken with how light it was.

We were well aware of all the marketing: that it was lightweight and designed to help moderate swing speed players up their speed. But we didn’t know what we were in for when we started swinging.

The Titleist TSi1 produces almost immediate increases in club head speed as evidenced by our launch monitor readouts.

What also struck us about this club was that there was almost no jarring transition. It was exceptionally lighter than most of the fairway woods we were used to; but it didn’t take more than 3 swings for us to get the hang of it.

The larger head profile really feels comfortable and familiar while the weight savings effectively increases club head speeds.

The adjustable hosel also helps with shot shaping although in the end, the Titleist TSi1 fairway wood was not very workable. It plays long, launches high, and will help you increase your swing speed though.

Titleist TSi Fairway Wood Family

If you are looking for a more workable fairway wood then the Titleist TSi3 would be a great choice. The smaller head shape, adjustable hosel and adjustable weight make for a perfect combination of shot shapeability.

Titleist TSi1 Selling Points

  • Adjustable hosel
  • Active Recoil Channel
  • Large head
  • Aldila Ascent shaft

Who is the Titleist TSi1 for?

The Titleist TSi1 was clearly made for players who are looking for some help with swing speed.

That, coupled with the generous head size, makes for a fairway wood that will help you reach more greens in regulation.
