Callaway Edge Vs Wilson Platinum Profile Golf Club Sets Review And Comparison 2023
If you are in the market for new golf clubs and overall quality is going to be a big factor for you, the Callaway Edge and Wilson Platinum Profile clubs are both a force to be reckoned with, although both aimed at slightly different players.
Wilson Platinum Profile
Callaway Strata long dominated the beginner set market until the Profile Platinum set came along to give them a serious run for their money.
The Platinum set oozes quality from the moment you see it and everything about the set is geared towards game improvment or taking your game from beginner to intermediate or mid handicapper.
The clubs are aimed at your average player with an average swing speed. The driver has a 10.5 degree loft, all clubs have large sweet spots, generous lofts and a low COG to allow to get the ball in the air more easily and reduce your score with long, straight shots.
The Irons are cavity back with perimeter weighting which are forgiving and easy to hit. Thick soles provide distance and a deep undercut allows for easy strikes.
The set is complete with a blade putter, 4 headcovers and a premium stand/cart bag.
A very hard set to beat for the price.
Callaway Edge Set Overview
The Callaway Edge is widely popular and is composed of premium quality clubs for beginners and mid handicappers.
The clubs come without a bag and you get 2 less clubs than with the Wilson set but the clubs are going to achieve a higher level of performance, not quite on par the highest level of clubs on the market but not far off.
The 2 clubs missing are the 5 wood and the 4 hybrid. The clubs also come with steel shafts and are suitable for fast swingers.
Despite being two clubs less and without a bag, the Edge set commands a higher price due to the excellent quality of the clubs
The driver, wood and hybrid are high launching and easy to hit while the cavity back irons have thing faces for excellent distance and forgiveness.
The set is completed by a premium Odyssey putter.
If you are a better player, have some clubs already and want to take you game to the next level, I recommend the Callaway Edge, once you have about $850 set aside.
If you are a high handicapper or looking to get into the game, the Platinum Profile is the better set for sure.

Wilson Platinum Profile – First Impressions & Club Breakdowns
The first thing you notice about this set when it arrives is that the overall quality of the package is very high. There is a large assortment of clubs and you cant wait to try out each one.
The clubs are sharp and prestine and you can quickly tell that this set is aimed at game improvement for beginners, high handicappers and average players.
Driver
The face of the 460cc driver is large and forgiving, the loft is also for the average player at 10.5 degrees. The weighting is is at the back center of the club allowing a low COG and a higher ball flight. Overall, distance, launch and forgiveness are impressive.
Woods
The 3 wood and 5 wood both have deep and low weighting. The face is large and this contributes to effortlessly straight shots and impressive launch angles from the fairway or the tee.
Hybrids
Hybrids have grown rapidly in popularity over the past 10 years and these clubs are perfect to hit from the rough or the fairway. A low centre of gravity and shorter shafts make these clubs easier to wield for the average player.
Irons
The irons are cavity backs for game improvement. Thick soles, a deep undercut and a large sweet spot make the clubs perfect for players of almost any level.
Wedges
The wedges have milled faces with deep grooves which make controlling the ball and adding spin a good option for improving players.
Putter
The blade putter isn’t exactly premium but it has a visual alignment, making putting a much easier task.
Shafts
Graphite shafts in the longer clubs and steel shafts in the irons. These clubs are aimed at the average swing speeds.
Overall this is a really impressive set and almost unbeatable for the price.
Callaway Edge 10 Piece Set – First Impressions & Club Break Downs
Because Callaway have seen the huge interested in the Strata beginner set, they have aimed the edge set at those improving golfers who want a high quality complete set to hit the course with.
Immediately noticeable when you look at the longer clubs is that they appear more solid and durable. They look more like something akin to the Callaway Mavrik Set than something for beginners.
Driver
The driver is a 10.5 degree club with a large head, massive sweet spot with a low COG and weighting in the back of the club for perfect trajectory and distance.
3 Wood
The 3 Wood has a large head and sweet spot too. the back weighting makes the club easy to get in the air from the fairway and if you struggle getting enough distance off the tee, the 3 wood is a perfect option for that too.
5 Hybrid
A perfect club from the fairway or the rough. The powerful head is built for distance but when coupled with the perimeter weighting, the club produces and excellent towering flight.
6 – 9 Iron
Cavity back irons that are game improvement but also have a deep undercut to allow you work the ball and add extra spin. The clubs are both long and forgiving with high MOI and low COG with tungsten weighting.
Also coming in a tough graphite shaft to suit fast, average and slow swing speeds.
You’ll enjoy hitting these as you make your approach to the green.
Wedges
The PW and the SW and both cavity back and the deep turf interaction with the higher lofts allows you to really attack the pin on your final approach to the green and add spin for the better players.
Putter
The putter in the edge set is one of the best clubs in the bag. It is a premium Odyssey White Hot Putter with visual alignment and tons of stability to keep you advancing on the hole with perfect accuracy.
Shafts
The longer clubs come with durable graphite shafts for faster swing speeds and you get a choice of steel or graphite in the irons. Fast swing speeds will tend to favor steel while beginners and slower swing speeds will favor the forgiveness of the graphite option.
One glaringly obvious omission in the Edge set is that there is no bag, it comes in a box!

I get out to the course or range as often as possible and review all the equipment I’ve come across on this blog.
