4 Hybrid Vs. 5 Wood Comparison Overview

The 5 wood is right around the point that you are going to start to see more loft and higher launch angles than a 4 hybrid. A lot of the advantages that hybrid clubs have over woods is better launch angles.

Again though, this starts to change when you are comparing a 4 hybrid and a 5 wood. But is a 5 wood really better to have in your bag than a 4 hybrid? We will help you answer this question in the following comparison overview

5 Wood Overview

The 5 wood plays longer than a 4 hybrid and will yield slightly higher launch angles. However, you tend to have to be a lot more accurate with your 5 wood than a 4 hybrid.

A lot of players will skip the 4 hybrid in favor of a 4 iron or a 4 or 5 fairway wood. You should keep in mind though that most players who do this are mid to low handicappers. 5 woods are usually set to about 18 degrees of loft compared to the 24-28 degrees of 4 hybrid clubs.

This makes them a viable option off the deck or from tight lies. The high launch also makes them good for approaching difficult greens. Good players will be able to squeeze about 205 yards out of a 5 wood which makes them an option from the tee as well.

However, woods need to make contact with the ball on the downswing. This is true from the tee and the deck so keep that in mind if you usually top the ball.

4 Hybrid Overview

The 4 hybrid club will be more congenial to players who need more consistency and better turf interaction.

Generally speaking, 4 hybrid clubs are also more forgiving. You won’t necessarily need to hit the sweet spot every time with your 4 hybrid in order to produce a straight shot. The heads of 4 hybrids are also longer and lower shallower. This makes then more congenial for playing through the rough.

Though you will not get much help from a 4 hybrid from the tee, they tend to be the better choice for shots off the deck.

In the end it depends on your preferences. A 4 hybrid will be more forgiving but won’t play as long as a 5 wood. If accuracy is less of an issue, the 5 wood may be a better choice.
