Taylormade Sim Max Vs Ping G425 Irons Comparison And Review

Ping And Taylormade are both behemoths in the golfing world and are known for having the best of the best when it comes to their new club releases.

Ping didn’t release any Irons in 2020 and the G425’s are the latest upgrade to the G410’s which were very popular.

Taylormade set out in 2020 to completely remodel the M6 range and it looks like they were designing a sports care with the end result.

While Ping have always concentrated on Mid Handicappers and better players, The G425 offer more forgiveness even though their heads are smaller and more compact.

Club Technology

The Variable face thickness improves the forgiveness on the Ping irons and the perimeter allows you to get the ball in the air easily while the irons look beautifully compact at address.

The Taylormade Sim Max are beautiful to look at with the cavity back design boasting a Speed Bridge, Speed Pocket and echo damping system.

If you are a high handicapper looking for distance and accuracy, we would recommend the Sim Max but if you are a better player, the G425’s will give more feel and workability while still offering goof distance and forgiveness.

For us overall, the Sim Max are very hard to beat for the average player or beginner.

Ping G425 Irons – First Impressions

After taking 2020 off, the G425 Irons are a much anticipated upgrade to the G410’s and the first thing you notice with these irons is that the heads are smaller and more compact.

The irons incorporate two weights, a visible screw at the front of the clubhead and a weight in the hosel. This, coupled with the wide and cascading sole allows a quality ball launch angle.

Ping have gone for the metal wood style material for the first time in a set of irons and the variable face thickness allows for a lot of forgiveness and ball speed on any strike, even when you hit the ball off center.

They also have a multi material badge filling in the cavity at the back to dampen any vibrations on mishits.

The irons have a slight bit of offset for forgiveness but you are going to get plenty of feel from these especially from Irons you would classify as game improvement.

Taylormade Sim Max – First Impressions

The first thing to notice about these Irons is the striking looks. The clubs have a cavity back design with more thickness towards the bottom of the design for more ball speed.

In the clubs we have a low Center of Gravity, a wide sole for a bigger sweet spot, forgiveness and echo camping technology for a nice sound even on Mishits.

The Speed Bridge, Speed Pocket and and ultra thin face all account for club head transferring into balls speed for maximum distance, accuracy and tons of forgiveness.

The Sim comes in a Sim format, Sim Max and the Sim Max Os.

The Sim are going to be excellent for mid handicappers. The sim max is more forgiving for high handicappers and the Sim Max Os is more offset for anybody how needs maximum forgiveness and also offset to correct any slicing.

The Sim Max Irons have recently been upgraded to the Sim2 family for 2021.
