Taylormade Sim 2 Vs Callaway Mavrik Irons Comparison And Review

Taylormade are a name that have been around the game forever while Cobra have been making steady progress in the last decade to become the household name that they are today.

In honesty both of these irons are similar in their construction and what they promise golfers, which unapologetically is ball speed and distance. With golf irons becoming so much better with every iteration, both of these clubs are also extremely forgiving and can even be classified as game improvement irons, useful for golfers of any level.

These are the latest iterations from both companies so we are expecting big things in today’s breakdown.

Taylormade Sim 2 Max Overview

The Sim 2 irons have a tough act to follow, the original sim max irons are some of the best I have ever used in terms of feel and performance.

The big difference in the Sim2 irons is the removal of the speed bridge which is now replaced by the Multi Material Cap Back which aims to maximize distance accuracy and forgiveness.

The echo dampener is fully submerged within the club head and max the club feel smooth even on mishits.

The sole of the club is thick as you would expect for distance an the weighting in the heel and toe provide a larger sweet spot along with the speed thru slot low in the face.

The progressive inverted cone technology also provides and expansion of the massive sweet spot on the clubs

These are perfect for high and mid handicappers and their performance is second to none.

Cobra Radspeed Irons Overview

With the big guns like Bryson Dechambeau now on board with Cobra, they have pulled all the stops with the new Radpseed irons.

The clubs have similar characteristics to the Sim 2’s with the multi material badge covering the cavity in the back to dampen any unwanted vibrations.

Thick soles and superior turf interaction make the clubs perfect for distance and high launching shots.

The tungsten weighting in the heel and toe of the club is placed with Artificial Intelligence and progressive, with the clubs becoming more workable in the shorter irons around the green.

These clubs come in one length and standard progressive lengths, with extra emphasis on COG for the one length irons.

For me the Sim 2 Irons are simply the better choice for high and mid handicappers and lower handicappers as well.

I would recommend every body to go with the Sim 2’s for almost everybody unless you have a specific reason to go with the Radspseed, you like one length clubs for instance.

Sim 2 Max – First Impressions

Immediately noticeable on these irons is that they look pretty similar to the Sim Max irons but the Cap Back technology does stand out as being more solid.

We weren’t expected much difference in performance either and turned out to be true as well, the Sim 2 Max are slightly longer and lower launching than their predecessor which shows an incremental improvement but nothing overly major to write home about.

The echo dampener and cap back does make these irons feel a good bit smoother in the shorter irons and you can really get a good command of the ball with the forged feeling face.

Thru slot and ICT technology ensure the sweet spot is large and playable and that is another feature that we enjoyed about these clubs.

Overall the clubs do mark an improvement over the Sim Max in terms of distance, feel and control and we recommend giving these clubs a shot before committing to a purchase, because the Sim Max are still competitive and may be available for a keener price.

Cobra Radspeed – First Impressions

The first thing to notice about the irons is that they have the chunky sole of a game improvement iron and the strong lofts are made for ball speed and distance

The 10g screw weight in the toe of the club also jumps out to use and it is complemented by a matching weight in the heel of the club for the perfect CG and a high MOI,

As soon as you start striking these irons, you notice the power and consistency in the clubs, when you catch a hold of the large grips and start letting some shots rip.

That is for good reason, they are crafted with AI for perfect weight placement and the 3D printed medallion on the back improves stability and reduces vibrations.

The thin flexible face offers a ton of forgiveness and ball speed and these irons also have plenty of turf interaction for the better players.
